    the battery + wires run along the passenger side too (if your battery is in the trunk)

    before the fire,you still have the heat shield that runs along the inside of the tranny tunnel on the passenger side?

      Damn, that's unfortunate. It could have been much worse though! Hope your insurance doesn't screw you over.

        You must have a car apraiser come out. He will tell them it's worth like 8k then they will fix it or write a check for you to. Mine was worth $5,600 and it was not nearly as clean as yours. They tried to total it for $1,500 then I got it apraised. They wrote me a $3,000 check to fix the dent I had. I'm to tired to spell correctly good night!

          Do you smoke cigarettes?

          Unless the fuse box was faulty, none of the wires that run underneath the seat have enough current to cause a fire like that without blowing the fuses. The only thing that could, is the main battery cable if the battery was re-located to the rear of the car.

              Yeah i am going to let there appraiser come out first and then if there appraiser tries to screw me i will get another one out there to fight it. I got hit in the rear a few months back..Small dent. But the girls insurance had to right me a check for 2k for it lol

              Nope i dont smoke cigarettes. I really think it had to of been the exhaust but neighter i nor the fire dept that was on the scene could determine 100 percent which was at fault.

              Hopefully i can get some pics i am off to work and gonna try and stop by and take a picture;

                I seriously doubt the exhaust caused the fire. If it did I will be very surprised. Definitely sounds like a hot wire grounded to another wire orr to the chasis of the car somewhere.

                  Yeah i keep going back and forth thinking maybe exhaust because its too big of a coincdence for it to have just had work on the exhaust. Then i go back to thinking the wires....Oh well

                  i went to go take a picture. Dealership is locked up and my dad had it up on a wrack so i had no way to get to it.

                    That was probably it then.

                    There have been a few e60 heated seats burning up (Recall ID # 04V575000); smoke in the cabin, burned seat, and/or burned occupant.

                            Comprehensive insurance will pay for the damage resulting from the fire, but not the cause itself. IE, it will pay for the burnt carpet, but not to repair the wiring that caused the fire
