I'm new to the e30 world in the sense of owning one, and I'm seeking opinions and advice. Prior to my E30, I had a lifted nissan titan, so reliability was not an issue. How comfortable are you guys with driving your car 1,000+ miles on a road trip? I wanted to venture down from northern california, to san diego, and I'd like to know what kind of preventative measures I can take, or what I could expect. Thank you

i've driven my e30(s) on 2000+ mile road trips a total of 6 times now. My 325e, on 4 trips, had problems with the rad fan clipping one of the hoses. that caused some problems, but i got really lucky with being able to patch it up and limp it to the next stop.
my s52 e30 was literally perfect on both road trips i did with it, 2000+ miles each way. one of those trips, a friend of mine drove for 33 hours straight, shutting the car off only when getting gas.
i'm sure the other guys here will have more input on what you should take with you and what not, but i'd say that as long as your car is in good shape and is well maintained, it should be fine. if you're worried, you can have a shop do an inspection of various components to make sure a wheel isn't about to fall off.

Drove mine on a 7 day roadtrip from Chicago back to Vancouver, BC and all I had to do was check the oil to make sure it wasn't low and fill up the gas tank.
I hope to do a coast to coast next year to check out Gutenfest 2011

err I bought my car with no history on the car, 300,000 plus miles, leaky hg, slight overheating problem at stoplightsfrom Tennessee to Tampa, FL. And then multiple 300+ mile runs until I decided Its not worth snapping the Timing belt or blowing the gasket. I also had it up to 135-140mph (speedo indicated) with no hesitation for a good five minutes. it really depends on if it's a complete shit heap or not.1990 325is Brilliantrot/Natur
