Power Steering Delete

Hello, So I have a PS leak and im set on removing the PS I hope of solving the leak.

Is there any how to's on removing the PS I would like to get this taken car of ASAP so I can be done with adding PS fluid every other week.

You can just take the belt off, but the leak would still be there.
Anything more would require removing and replacing hoses, where at that point you might as well just replace what was leaking in the first place and keep the PS.

You don't need to replace any hoses.

Just did this on my car. Keep in mind, obviously it will be harder to steer. It's really not that bad though.


Here's a basic how to:
1. Remove PS pump & bracket, belt.
2. Loosen all hoses, remove reservoir.
3. take out the banjo bolts at the steering rack, catch some of the fluid in a lot of these steps, including this one.
4. steer from left to right very quickly to force fluid out of the rack (it helps if your car is on jackstands)
5. once you're satisfied that most of the fluid is out, cap the banjo bolts somehow. I went to lowes and got 1 ft 1/2 ID tubing and 1 ft 5/8 ID tubing. (I think those were the sizes. One banjo bolt is small than the other.)
6. Slip a piece of each hose over the banjo bolt's holes. This is really just to prevent dirt and other particles from entering the steering rack.
7. Enjoy the delete and the workout!

The rack is internally lubricated, so don't worry about it not being lubed.

looping is pointless, and will actually increase effort if you throw fluid in it.

Yea I was worried about not having fluid in the rack but I guess its not an issue just capping everything off.

How does that increase effort? I was under the impression that the rack needed fluid to stay lubricated but, it doesn't need to ever be drained, just topped off.

I have one of Silence's ps deletes.
I'm pretty sure the rack can seize up if there is no fluid in it, the ps delete allows fluid to flow through the banjo bolts just like normal. accept now, it doesn't assist you at all. My steering is super easy, works perfectly for me.

the atf/psf doesn't even contact the actual rack itself

so none is needed

I use saline in my rack. That way if I get a flat tire I can just fill it back it up.

i would not drive an e30 without power steering.

I have one without PS. It can be a pain to parallel park and stuff under 5 mph. Other than that its pretty much the same. My mom drives it and doesn't mind it at all.

I Really like the feel with no PS Its not to much effort required to turn at low speed but im sure it can get annoying at times. (AFTER A LONG DAY OF WORK)

It sucks in a parking lot, not going to lie, but once you get all that extra feel on the mountain it pays off.
