Most of you know that in Oregon it is illegal to pump your own gasoline. Serious fines and whatnot if you get caught doing it. Pretty stupid... anyways.
I now have a serious grievance with Shell oil company.
On April 10th I stopped for gas around 7am. I was on my way to pick up ClavinZero at the airport. I got out of the car handed the gas station attendant my card, and told him $10/ of premium.
I then opened my trunk, and rearranged some junk so I would have room for his bags. I then heard I loud clunk, looked over and saw the guy putting the nozzle in the filler hole. Figured he just caught the neck on his way in. No big deal.
It was freaking cold outside, so I hopped back in the car and waited for my receipt. The guy came over to the window and tried to hand me my receipt, which is when I noticed how fucked up he was.
The guy was moving his hand all over the place (shaking) within a 6in diameter or so. Didn't know at the time but its now been established he is a 40+ yrs old, retarded, and has bad arthrtis. He cannot for his life hold his hands/arms still or steady.
Anyways I jet down to Eugene Airport and get out of the car, by now I've had 30miles to think about it, and decide to go check. Sure enough I walk around the car to the fuel door and there is a large chip just above the fuel door indent. He missed the filler neck by like 6 inches! The flecks were still mostly on the car, proof positive that this had just happened. Not only that but slight fuel spillage on the top of the rubber boot around the neck, and on he bumper. I has washed the car the night prior to this, then parked it. Chip wasn't there then.
Anyways I go in, pick up Clavin, and go home with him. After I drop him off I help him take his bags out then head back to the gas station.
I got there around 9am or so, maybe a tad later. Now the assistant manager is in. No one was there earlier that morning except our wonderful retard. The assistant manager looked at the damage, and helped me fill out a claim form. I left my name, number(s), email address, etc.
I came back monday and talked to the manager. He also looked at the car, and immediately tried to pull the "are you sure this didnt happen on the highway etc" card, to which I told him it happened here, performed by their retard Vernon.
I again left my contact info, and went home.
I stopped in several more times that week, looking for updates. The manager was consistantly "not in" and I told the gas monkeys there to leave messages.
Either they never left messages for the manager, or he just didn't feel like calling me back.
2 weeks go by, I get back from Texas.
I stop in Sunday, again only the assistant manager. He is completely worthless, and can't tell me a damned thing about any progress. I harass him briefly, tell him I will return at 10am tuesday morning (today) and his boss had better be here.
I stop in today, 10am on the dot. Manager is in his office. We go out to my car to talk.
I show him the chip again, and how its starting to gather surface rust. I have not touched it up because he specificly requested I not mess with it so their insurance company can take pictures. He never called in 2 weeks to setup a time to do that...
Anyways after some discussion he tells me that their insurance company has decided they are not liable for the damages, because Vernon (the retard) claims he didn't do it, and that it must have happened elsewhere. Since I cannot prove he did it, they won't pay out.
I then made a scene in the parking lot with the manager, chewing him a new asshole, telling him what to go do with himself etc. Customers and employees alike gathered to observe.
I asked him is Vernon still worked there. I was told yes. I asked the manager if he was aware that Vernon was completely unable to hold his hands or arms steady. He smirked and was definately aware... I told him I would return with a video camera to film Vernon trying to pump gas, and forward it to their insurance company.
He tells me there is nothing else he can/will do and if I care to persue it further I will need to call thier insurance company.
I did.
I called their insurance company and told them what happened, explained the situation with the retard, and emailed her the pictures I had taken. She said she would get back to me later this week. We shall see.
Anyways I took my car back to the shop that did the original paint work, and got a quote for the repairs that need to be done. $325 is the total. I expect nothing less out of Shell Oil Company or their insurance company.
Long post I know, but now you may dispense your feedback.
