I dynoed next to one in October. It was a stage two i think? it had a diff badge and some factory upgrades like ECU, New turbo trim, boost controller exhaust... stuff like that..
Any way, my car beat in in all aspects. I think it put down 225WHP and 239WTq.
I was excited to see it do iats runs, but afterwords, I left unimpressed.
The exhaust was also really obonoxious IMO..
I think he put an extra 5 or 6 grand into the car.. so 25000 for a car that puts down 225 whp, corrected 10% 250ish?, by a WRX. At least then you get all wheel drive...better yet, buy a used M3 and spnk guys in there yellow neons.

you know, america cant make one goddamn reliable naturally aspirated engine, so what makes me think they can produce a forced induction engine? nothing. add that to awd, and all i see is money pit. $$$$$$$$$ american engines + forced induction= unreliability

I respect them for what they are, cheap speed. Yes the build quality is crap, but you have to have a trade-off somewhere. If you just want to go fast with a new car warranty for not alot of money, the srt-4 is the best bang for your buck.

I'd choose a slightly used '99-'02 f-body instead though if I were to go that route, $10-15k, 350hp stock with unlimited potential, rwd, great exhaust note, and good handling when properly setup. 8)

I would not buy an SRT-4. In that price range, I would get an e36 M3, a nice e30 M3, or a used WRX if you want something newer. Get a 02 WRX and get all that initial depreciation out of the way. Imagine that neon in a few years.... Think of an old neon now.....even if it was fast it would still not be cool.

lol good points i knew that this tread would have a good turn out....i wouldnt get one now that i think about it because with all that money i could just have a turbo M50.....and that would be alot more fun......... 8) and would have alot more style!!!

True that rob, but would you rather have a BMW running a ton of boost with proven rock solid internals, or have a questionable american motor with mystery internals (and if you modify it, doesnt it void the warrany?) I know where im headed....[/img]

Chrystler's boosted 4 banger motors have been around for nearly 20 years, they are very reliable and very well built. I'll see if I can dig up the article I have from hot rod magazine on the new SRT4's motor, it's a very slickly designed lump.

20k for the 2004 model, plus 1500 for the dealer package, bringing you to ~265 hp with a LSD up front. With a warranty to boot.

                      I can dig that.

True dat, Charlie. I just still can't get over the fact that Neon's are ugly as hell though.

Nope, they put down 230 Crank horse and 250 crank torque.
I was talking about wheel horses. so he got an additional 23 horses and 24 ftlbs of torque.. maybe more? I am assuming that the dodge values are somewhat inflated.
I think his car was pushing something stupid like 19psi..
I remember being shocked when he told me, and then thinking, why couldn't they get those figures from 8 psi and a better engine?

SRT4s are way underrated stock.....SCC has one putting down 223Whp on a dynojet. A local shop had one put down ~230whp on a mustang dyno (reads low compared to others) with just a boost controller......

Quit knockin the performance ability of the SRT-4 I would pick it a run with a wrx.
