I'm racist against 4 doors lol. So thats only thing that came to my mind haha. My 94 4door was roomy, fairly easy to maintain, and got 23mpg on the highway here in the mountians with my lead foot! But yet my 97 4door got 19-20 tops  and they both had the 4.3 Vortec...

Remember, you guys need a black sheep here to throw in different opinions sometimes :p haha

I've been in plenty of E46's with 150k that drove mint. Watch out for rear subframe tearing, aside from that they aren't much different than an E30 to work on ;)

E39's are nice cars, one of the only cars I can actually stand driving with an auto. E46 or E39 you're gonna be looking at over 100k miles even for 6k.

You could get a nice E34 540i/6, plus side is if you keep it nice it's probably done depreciating.

mazda6, awesome. really fun to drive and great ride feel.

i'd probably get an e46 though.

If you want cheap, stay away from an e39! Any e39 you found for under $6k would most likely become a huge money pit and source of constant annoyance.

Any e36,39, or 46 with 150k miles are going to money pits....

Spend 5k on a camry and be happy driving a boring reliable car.

You say that, but a good friend of mine's 99 camry was a nightmare. Im sure that was an exception- it sounds as if e46/e39 arent reliable in the higher miles? The prices of parts are competitive, and I plan to stay either m54/m52.

nice e34's im also considering but she'd say it looks too old (i know, dont remind me)

we got our '03 legacy for $5k - 135k miles, mint condition, one owner, optioned out. You don't need the AWD in florida and it doesn't get very good mileage (25-27 freeway). But it's roomy as hell and probably the easiest japanese car to work on that I've seen.

Toyota Camry - if you do that, you have to cut off your balls. If you buy a Volvo that isn't RWD, you also have to cut off your dick and install a vagina.

                              E34 535i manual. Well-built roomy 4-door, BMW's toughest engine, and E30-like simplicity/maintenance. Someone prove me wrong.

Also, E39s aren't that bad. They can be a pain electrically, but as far as comfort, gas mileage, and space, they can't be beat for $5k. I would pick up a clean 528i manual, if not the E34.
