I actually contemplated doing this while in Germany. I had a Euro 89 320i and got a hold of POS U.S. spec 84 318i. I was going to pop the vin and all the little federalization stickers in from the 318 to it's Euro counterpart, and vice versa then just junk the 318i. It might have worked.....but didn't have enough time to do it, as I didn't get a hold of the U.S spec car til 2 weeks before I was leaving.Originally posted by DanGillanbuy 2 e30's one euro spec, one shitty matching US spec, register the US car, put plates on euro car. end of fucking story.Comment

Sure is. Tampering with VIN's or swapping VIN plates will get you a nice cozy cell, if the courts decide it.Originally posted by E30-330iDanGillan wrote:

But, in Dan's defense, you have to get caught...Comment

why not buy a US spec parts car and swap (or pay to have swapped if needed) all the neccesary parts? then you can simply swap whatever parts you want back at a later date. get some us spec bumpers so you don't have those nasty repeaters drilled into your fenders.
of course it's probably MUCH simpler to get a car from canada. I live just across the border so I might try that some day. there are no inspections or emissions checks here so no worries about that. they don't look at your car when you have it registered or insured either.Comment

Or just buy a US car and buy the 5 parts that separate the US and Euro spec cars...Comment

True. Just swap out the VIN on all the necessary places, and grab the fed stickers. Then just have it shipped. No one is going to check if you have the side beams in the doors, proper windshield, bumpers, etc. They have better things to worry about than an E30. It can work.Originally posted by DanGillanno one would ever think twice to check such a POS e30 to see if its a properly imported gray market car. no one will ever check. ever.Comment

I know an article came out in one of the Roundels, I believe about the whole process and someone importing their E34 3.8L ///M5. ANy idea which month issue? Thank you. Hey at least I used the "search" feature.
