the e30 will accept pretty much any power plant. thus it is very easy to get big HP numbers if you wanna say screw it to the purists

just make sure you notch the subframe so it will fit snug and weld in a pvc roll so the chassis isn't too stiff.

a friend of mine has 250whp on an s50. im sure he's spent at least $10k on just the motor. i know he recently had his head redone by VAC for $3k.
