Personally, I don't think E30s are overpriced.
They are either a classic or about to be. The M3 is just icing on the cake...but in no way are they worth $30K, ever. This current hyper inflated market is only due to the rarity of an M car...you can certainly get a far more competent car for WAY less than that, especially if we are talking track use.
The E30 is a stunningly competent car, the quality of which is absolutely unmatched.
They are fun, cute, generally 6 cylinder RWD cars...what else fits that description, Maximas? No thanks, I will pass on Nissans or pretty much anything else. Nothing is as well designed or as well built as the E30 anywhere near that price range.
I see no issue with a decent example in great shape selling for $8K, while a "Project Shitbox" might sell for as little as $800...the average E30 with faded paint but mechanically sound should go for $4500 or so.
Just my take on this.

As for KBB, NADA etc. they are just price guides, not an end all to retail pricing of used cars.Chris

You been sniffing to much Liquid Nails fumes while building boxes again? :p
Of course the rarity of any item is going to drive up the asking price.
Supply and demand baby, supply and demand.
Argument of there being more competent track cars has no relevance in an M3's asking price.
People are willing to pay to get one because it is an M3. Not because its more track worthy than brand x car.

Just wanted to see how many people will answer my question. I didn't expect people to say such rude comments lol. I am not stupid and I merely just wanted to know how many people have failed with communication skills.
At least some people could follow directions and provide decency.WTB E30. Right now $1500+ Vert or 4 door only.
Price range will increase every month.

The original question was just extremely naive. If you have spent any amount of time in cars, or any kind of collectible item for that matter, the answer should have been obvious.
For instance,
Why do people pay more for silver certificates? They only say a dollar on them...1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug
