        Personally, I don't think E30s are overpriced.

They are either a classic or about to be. The M3 is just icing on the cake...but in no way are they worth $30K, ever. This current hyper inflated market is only due to the rarity of an M car...you can certainly get a far more competent car for WAY less than that, especially if we are talking track use.

The E30 is a stunningly competent car, the quality of which is absolutely unmatched.

They are fun, cute, generally 6 cylinder RWD cars...what else fits that description, Maximas? No thanks, I will pass on Nissans or pretty much anything else. Nothing is as well designed or as well built as the E30 anywhere near that price range.

I see no issue with a decent example in great shape selling for $8K, while a "Project Shitbox" might sell for as little as $800...the average E30 with faded paint but mechanically sound should go for $4500 or so.

        Just my take on this.

I'm not saying they are or are not worth $30k, but M3s are simply worth what a buyer is willing to pay. Look at classic muscle cars, 6 figures and crappy perforance when compared to a current car. But it's the fact that someone wants it bad enough the price is up there. So that is it's "worth". Obviously, that monetary value of worth varies from person to person. As with the M3 or any other car out of production that is available in limited numbers. You can always find a current car that performs better, gets better mileage, makes more power, whatever, but it still can't be bought at your local car lot.

As for KBB, NADA etc. they are just price guides, not an end all to retail pricing of used cars.

Dude you are way off with this thought.
You been sniffing to much Liquid Nails fumes while building boxes again? :p

Of course the rarity of any item is going to drive up the asking price.
Supply and demand baby, supply and demand.
Argument of there being more competent track cars has no relevance in an M3's asking price.
People are willing to pay to get one because it is an M3. Not because its more track worthy than brand x car.

Just wanted to see how many people will answer my question. I didn't expect people to say such rude comments lol. I am not stupid and I merely just wanted to know how many people have failed with communication skills.
At least some people could follow directions and provide decency.

Are you seriously crediting the value of E30's to hipsters and not the fact that they are one hell of a car? People want them because they are awesome, and nice ones are becoming harder and harder to find. It has nothing to do with some hipster revolution flooding the market and somehow also driving the price up at the same time.

Just the fact that you are trying to back up or defend your initial post does indeed scream that you are a fucking retarded idiot.

Well when you ask a question like that you sometimes get those kind of answers. The reason it isn't selling for what KBB says it is worth is because KBB isn't the one selling or buying the car, and KBB doesn't really matter when it comes to the actual market. Kelly Blue Book is way off base for most used cars.

I don't need to defend anything because I am not being attacked. And even if I was there is no point in defending because I wasn't trying to insult anyone and your taking this thread too seriously.

I think he has a valid point to a degree, I mean ricers pushed up the value of 240sx's for awhile even though it is a good rwd platform.

I have a problem when I have to pay the RMV sales tax on an E30 that I bought for say $800 and they base tax on the much higher KBB

The original question was just extremely naive. If you have spent any amount of time in cars, or any kind of collectible item for that matter, the answer should have been obvious.

                                For instance,
Why do people pay more for silver certificates? They only say a dollar on them...
