    BMW over price?

Okay I love E30's and all but I checked KBB and they price under $2k then Edmunds says $1,600. So why is everyone selling it at $4k-$6k?

I can't seem to find a thread anywhere else.

    I need an explanation, please.
    Thanks.

Please tell me you've gone to highschool. A car will sell at whatever the price the buyer is willing to pay for it.

It's because hipsters and market trends that ruined e30's for the rest of driving enthusiast and flooded the market with broken down rust buckets driving the prices up forcing the market to adjust their prices accordingly for clean well running machines. Some may argue that because the chassis is becoming a classic when in reality only the e30 M3 is becoming a classic car. Non-m's are receiving some benefit of that but not enough to honestly justify the bump in price we've received. Needless to say if you have a clean well running e30 right now and want to dump it now's the time. Welcome to the real estate market before the bubble burst

Edmunds says my M3 is only worth $10,480 in 'outstanding' condition, I think we all know that's hogwash. But I'm not worried...

KBB only goes back to 1991. Edmunds to 1990. By this you can surmise that even they acknowledge that they cannot estimate the price of older vehicles.
The low figures, and otherwise lack of figures in general are due to many reasons. Chief amongst which is that thses sources exist to provide figures to the 'average consumer' who is buying a car as a car and nothing else. And the average consumer doesn't go out and buy a 25 year old sports sedan as an A-to-B commuter.
Secondly, as a car ages there is less and less of a pool from which to draw a sample of sale prices. With fewer sales these sources are atleast half-way correct to assume that there is less demand, and therefore less value for those that do sell. This is pretty much true, at least when you take into accout the Geos and Fiestas floating around in dealer lots. In the absence of data, i.e. no recent dealer sales, value-guides do the sensible thing and simply make a graph of the trend of sales figures and fill in the next spot on the curve.
This is all well and good for the 'average consumer', but it doesn't take into account 'enthusiast' vehicles and the fact that depreciation is actually a hyperbola that will eventually, if slowly, start to go up again. However these guides were never intended for the likes of us 'enthusiasts'. I think its pretty safe to say that the E30 is at, or at least near the bottom of that cycle.

Disclaimer: I stil believe that for more that $2500, any non-M E30 better be extraordinarily special

its getting harder and harder to find clean non riced out or rusted e30's so the price bracket goes up on these cars...

kbb is basically bs when it comes to enthusiast/collector/classic cars and the e30 def falls into at least one of those categories and potentially more depending on the car..

kbb is ok to use as a baseline for a basic commuter car ie: honda civic/toyota corolla etc
