for all you anti diving board people...

For whatever reason I chose to take my 85 eta to work yesterday instead of my 90 325i. I was rear ended on the way in while slowing from 40 mph or so. I was maybe going 20-30mph before being hit by an early 90's Ford Taurus that couldn't slow down fast enough when the car in front of me slammed on the brakes and made a right turn-like one might do if the turn snuck up on them. If e30 brakes sucked as much as Taurus brakes do I might have hit him but as we all know e30 brakes are pretty good so the girl behind me ended up hitting me. Damage to my 1985 eta: couple scratches on the black bumper trim and nothing else. Damage to the Taurus: both headlights shattered, bumper shattered and a very minor bend in the hood. Metal bumpers rule and I'm really glad I drove the eta yesterday instead of my 1990 325i. The bad part is if it would have actually been bad I'd be shopping for euro bumpers right now...

I actually just last Sunday swapped my plastic front bumper back to DB. I come from a SUV family so metal bumpers WTF! I'm not big on plastic bumpers esp. since people in the city can't park for the life of them.

yes DB are good and can lok good when taken care of but when you ran into a tow hit on a f150 the DB doesnt do anything to protect your hood and lights. They can be practical for small car impacts but not so great with vans SUVs and trucks

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

My bumpers are too low to be of any use against anything around here anyway, so it doesn't really matter what I have on it. I'm pretty sure a typical SUV would hit my trunk lid, judging by what I see out here.

Check the shut lines around your doors very carefully...there's a good chance there is minor structural damage to your car after a hit like that. The diving boards do a good job of protecting the tail lights but also unfortunately do a "good" job of transferring the energy into the midsection of the car.

So what you're saying is, diving boards are like those clear-plastic wrapped couches?

Sure, the plastic protects the couch in the long term, but whats the point, when it looks totally retarded in the mean time?

Last I checked, DB's were good for 5mph and under crashes.
