What liquids should we be putting in our cars?

I've got suggestions from people saying not to put e87 in my 86 325e. I've been putting at least e89 gas in. Also the gear oil. the bentley manual does no help and almost says throw any gear oil in there. what are you guys putting in your cars?

I only run 93oct, Redline diff/tranny fluids and Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

I always run 91/93 octane depending on what's available. Motul or redline oils everywhere.

91 Octane, redline trans/diff, bmw coolant, castrol gtx 20w50 oil.

Edit: A stock car only needs 89 octane.

e87 and e89 refer to ethanol blended with gasoline.

if your talking about octane then its useless to run 89, might as well run 87. countless people have ran their e30s on 87 without trouble. you really only need to run 91 or 93 when you have a chip or other mods that call for higher octane.

I use 93oct due to my markD chip. Motul brake fuid. Motul tranny & diff fluid. Valvoline 10w40 standard engine oil. I will switch to valvoline full synthetic on my stroker but there is no reason on my stock 200k bottom end at this point.

I run 87 all day and roll ~25mpg when I don't track it on the weekend.

Oil is 15w40, probably going to 20w50 next time, it's cheaper.

Redline diff and trans oil, only 'cause I get it fairly cheap through work.

Yeah mines chipped, why should you run 93 if its chipped? is it bad for the engine? or just produce more power?

^ it depends on if the chip is tuned for 91+.

anyone that is running a stock dme and 89 octane or above is retarded.

100 octane, Castrol 20/50 non-synthetic, Ate Super blue brake fluid, coolant is nothing special because it doesnt last long for some reason.

I could have sworn my gas door says 89. If it's 87 that's even cooler. I'm tuned for 93, but for some reason thought the stock tune was 89. My bad.

Unless you have a chip, anything but 87 octane is a waste of money (in the octane respects at least). Your car doesn't have knock sensor's and can't adjust for the different pings/ knocks. So, it will not change the timing to reflect a higher octane that is prone to less knocking.. And your just paying more at the pump for no really good reason

Synthetic on an old motor will result in new leaks, dont do it.
