You'll need the wiring harness from a vanos M50, intake manifold from an M50, S50 intake (if you want), M50 knock sensors (and some wiring to make it work, ask JasonH), e34 oil pan and dipstick, M50 fuel rail cover, power steering hoses (if you look up the part #, you'll be given the wrong part, but you can make it work anyways by bending it), 413 ecu (no ews, you'll need custom software anyways), ix/320i brake booster, you can use the M52 exhaust manifold, but it'll be a different setup than if you did M50 EM (M52 has more flow, I stuck with M50 because I didn't want to pay for more custom exhaust work. If you do stick with the M52 ones, you'll need to weld two holes closed and find plugs for the O2 sensors), those are some of the things I can think of. Then there's tiny stuff that you discover down the line.
Anyone else can chime in on what else is needed, however I'm sure there's a write-up for it.
wiring harness from a vanos M50 (has to be vanos?)
intake manifold from an M50 (vanos/non? doesnt matter?)

Wow. So obviously more complicated than slapping an M50 in.
Decisions decisions. If I decide to keep both my 92 non-vanos and this new M52, what will I need to buy aside from the two motors?

Has to be vanos because you need the plug on the harness for the vanos.
Intake manifold...I don't believe there is a difference between vanos/non.
Can be from an S50 (bigger, 3.5" I believe), but can use a vanos M50 MAF.
Knock sensors...probably not a difference, you just need them from an M50. About $50 each.
Honestly though, if I had known how much extra work and money would need to be done to go from M50->M52, I would have gone the whole 9 yards for an S52...same work, more power.

huh. well, you're doing the swap and saying it's not worth it. Guess that sort of sums it up. Now I get to read about your other suggestion. What was it again?
PS - If anyone is interested in that M52TU, let me know.
