Does Growing up = abandoning the oldskool?

If the wife wants a new car,and you guys can afford it then by all means do it. As mentioned earlier they are much much safer and more reliable than an old wore out POS.
Also you may know how to non-Caucasian-modify a car along the high way after dark in the rain with a tooth brush and bailing wire to limp your ass home. Your wife and kids I suspect dont have the same ability. Put them in something newer preferably with a warranty and dont look back.
Like the little woman told me a long time ago, "if you want to drive an old POS thats your prerogative but I am not"
I hope I am miss reading you here, but are you really that tight that you would make your wife make payments too you if the car she wants is too expensive ????Originally posted by previasc96..........I will get her the newest car that we can afford cash, or held her make payments on a newer one........The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

I have a well-modded E30 ///M3 and a 2001 540i 6-speed for the fam-bam (neither of which I drive currently due to license issues) but theres balance and compromise without you having to turn in your balls and man-card in a sealed envelope.

people have a prejudice against old anything because it's all about appearances. they want people to think they are rich by owning a new car/house/boat/whatever, but in reality they're up to their eyeballs in debt and upside down on everything financial. Oh look, it's the mortgage and debt crisis... wonder how that happened?
as far as E30s being safe - yeah, they're total fucking deathtraps! OMG, sell it right now before it kills you! ;)Comment

I've been considering letting my touring go for this whole reason(growing up and getting priorities straight). I don't have time for much anything else but the tasks at hand, let alone trying to make the perfect e30.
Besides if I end up in Europe in the next 3 years, I'll be sure to snag something cool, well sorted and bring it home. Why not right? My feedback:

I would rather use the $ towards getting settled in a new country. I'm getting out of college this semester, and work as an Office Assistant in the Residential Life department. I have been and will continue to put money aside so that I can go with my lady to a place we agree on in Europe. She has dual citizenship, and would get free grad school overseas. I'll be putting a hold on pursing my masters till we get over there, but in the mean time(she is a year behind me) I will be working my bum off(as a fabricator for the next year), collecting on a few investments, and selling my toys so that we have a little something to lean on while we try to get our feet back under us.Last edited by bataangpinoy; 01-26-2014, 05:46 PM.My feedback:

I'm just starting out in life I just recently purchased an e90 lci (no my parents didn't buy it for me) as much as I love my e30 the e90 or any modern car will just be more "comfortable" and "easier" to drive.
Although there won't be that coolness factor of mobbin around in da 30 you have to think about the future. I bought a new car with extended warrenty just so I can peruse my e30 shenanigans and not worry about not having a car to fall back on or to throw money at it for repairs. When I'm done paying it off ill have a nice car that's not too told, or with high miles and that it was well taken care of. When the times to for me to get married/start a family the misses can take the e90 or buy her self a new car while I drive my e30 :)

I have my e30 and we have an 05 Suburban that my wife drives and we use as a family vehicle. I am stubborn as a mule and would never own a FWD Car. I will probably by myself another newer truck in the future and keep the e30
I don't see having your wife drive something that is old school because you don't want her breaking down alone or with your kid and being clueless on how to fix anything and be put in a possible dangerous situation1989 BMW 325is Lachsilber metallic 5 speed

This is my approach - my wife gets a new car every 5 years or so, I drive what ever I want - traditionally old BMWs the last 18 years, Nissans before that.
The question on safety is an interesting one.... would I rather be in my wife's car should I be in a big crash with my family in the car? Absolutely. With the sorted suspension / tyres etc. of the e30, with far superior handling, which would I rather drive on the open road & potentially avoid having the accident? e30 all the way. Out handles many modern cars in the twisty stuff.
Active safety (ie. how much capacity does the car have to avoid the accident in the first place) is never considered in safety tests, only what happens in the accident. Wy wife's car is great in an urban environment, awful on the highway.
Not all new cars are engineered as well as a new BMW or Mercedes.Comment
