    I'd say he's pretty damn close. I sit around 3200 with my 3.73 @ 70mph.

Well if that's the case, it's a nonissue. I'm pretty sure my numbers are correct. I'd say 80-85 is more in the 3700 range now that I think about it though.

I drove it over the weekend up to Mendocino, and all I could think about the entire drive was "hmm, 4k cruising, I'm fucked if my belt brakes or something." I guess I'm just used to a sixth gear and lower rpms.

As for gas, it wasn't anything I noticed, just sort of logic. I just figured after a certain point it was wasting gas, if that point is 3k then my gears are all good in my book. I think I was just being a little paranoid, I havent driven the car in a few months.

Simple ratios, guys. 80 with a:

          3.73 is 3400rpm
          4.10 is 3750rpm
          3.46 is 3150rpm
          3.25 is 2950rpm
          2.93 is 2650rpm
          paint sucks

you're pretty much fucked if your belt breaks regardless. interference motors like to bang valves. just keep up on your timing belt and you wont have to worry.

you seem very paranoid. almost every post is you worrying about your car, just chill. this is coming from someone who beats the ever living crap out of their e30's, swapped or not. these cars are pretty robust.

I had a 4.10 G260 M20B25 with 195/60/14 tires. I had always thought that the freeway RPM would be the problem, but it actually wasn't. The big problem was how ridiculous 1st gear was. Sometimes had a hard time deciding whether to start out in 1st or 2nd from a stop. I would be in 2nd gear before I hit the middle of an intersection.

I am planning on 3.73 with the same tire size. I think it will be fine then.
It would be great to have an extra tall 5th gear for cruising though.

or maybe those are the idle adjustment specs

Actual shift RPM was not absurd though, something between 2000-3000. I just remember feeling like an 18-wheeler pulling away from a light.

I run a 3.64 rear gear and try to keep the tire Dia to 23.5-24 inches. Tire size can change your highway cruise RPM by a couple hundred rpm.
The 3.64 is a good compromise. I have a 87' is and with the exception of this stump puller 1st gear with a raised RPM limit I can to 60 in 2nd and 90 in third. And the car gets decent millage at cruise RPM and 70mph.
Having know several people that hade these cars new in Germany they used to cruise in them at 100-110 for hours at a time with no adverse side effects.

I have 3.73 and i can barely cover any distance in 1st and 2nd gear.
It is freakkin lame. And there is no pull in 3rd and 4th gear either.
The only time the car pulls is in the 5th gear.
What is the point of this? I'd rather drive an automatic.
Shifting from Neutral to 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 is worthless.
I seriously want to swap for a 2.xx Diff.
And yes, i too am at 4K rpm at 80mpm.

^ no you aren't. not unless your tires are like 2" undersized in diameter
