It is freakkin lame. And there is no pull in 3rd and 4th gear either.
The only time the car pulls is in the 5th gear.
What is the point of this? I'd rather drive an automatic.
Shifting from Neutral to 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 is worthless.
I seriously want to swap for a 2.xx Diff.
And yes, i too am at 4K rpm at 80mpm.
You're concept of gearing seems to be pretty skewed with reality.

I run a 3,91 and am on the autobahn everyday. 1st is short, but nice when you run it up to 6500rpm

I used to have a 327i with a 4,10 that I would run about 900km every weekend, for a whole year at about 5800-6200 for periods of hours at a time. didnt have a problem with the motor or drivetrain.

Its not a huge displacement V8- its a high reving small euro motor- it is meant to run higher RPMs.

I just finished swapping to a 3.25 and I gotta say I like it. The legs feel a lot longer and I'm not having to shift every 2 seconds. It feels almost like a new car.

At most autocrosses, I was having to bounce the limiter in 2nd or shift into 3rd for a short distance. I'm very much looking forward to a longer 2nd at the autocross and longer 3rd at the track.

This is not a chore I'd want to do before every track day. I hope to never do it again.

Swapping diffs isn't that bad once you've broken the bolts loose.

I have a super super slow gear ratio, it sucks. So slow off the line but 60-100 is awesome.

I want to get a 3.73 or a 4.10... but I do a lot of highway driving, I don't want to burn through 3 tanks of gas every week. Is a 3.73 really that bad? I plan on going that route next month before socal euro.

swapping back and forth for track days/street driving is completely out of the question in my world. I've swapped mine twice and the process was no more fun the 2nd time.

3.73s came stock. Why is it that people think that makes them high strung? it's basically perfect for a mildly stock M20.

man, half of you guys have never driven a V8 car. mikeedler basically follows my sentiment. These aren't big blocks. 2.93s behind a G260 = lame. I had 2.76s behind a 5+ liter V8 and it was still slow as balls. so you can do 75mph in 2nd gear - so what? it still takes forever to get there..

e30 are built for fun. if you commute and don't like paying for gas get a golf/corola/or some other pos. dont turn you car into a b*tch to save 15$ a month on gas.

lol to each his own man. Takes me 1-1 1/2hrs to swap out the diff by myself. less than an hr if I have somebody around to pull/release the e-brake while I rotate the driveshaft & axles.

I had a nice rebuilt 2.93lsd for a few years before recently switching to a 3.73lsd, and I've gotta say the difference is not drastic IMO unless you're really getting up there in speed.

The 3.73 does feel sportier and more responsive though, the 2.93 didn't have quite as much oomph but it was easier to drive smoothly.

I went from 4.10 open to 2.93 LSD. Nice long gears for the highway, but not ideal around town if you want acceleration. Then I went to a 3.25 LSD. Still not my thing. I'm back to a 4.10 LSD this time (and I'm a rear end swapping champion because of this). It's really about your driving habits. If you do a lot of highway traveling, 3.25 is the way to go. If you're pepping around town and don't do much highway, then stick with a 4.10 or 3.73. I prefer acceleration around town, so that's my 2 cents.
