When you do it wrong, ruin the new guibo, do it over ruin the drive shaft etc.

Your inability to take constructive input shows your lack of intelligence.

As I said before, I did this with hand tools in 1980. Have you successfully replaced a guibo?

shit get the good one from azone.

rent the impact and a good air compressor.
trust, doing joe's motor today was SOOOO much easier with the impact. everything form taking off wheels to the AC compressor, from exhaust to heat shield to guibo...you get the idea

So constructive input is telling me to buy one of the most expensive impact wrench on the market. Even if I were to buy a nicer impact wrench, I would not spend $350+.

I've helped take a drive shaft out of a E46 before. Basically same exact set up.

Personally, I believe I just lack the muscle to do it with hand tools/ the car is not high enough in the air to get the leverage needed. Conceptually, it makes sense to me, just can't get the bolts out.

yep, heat the piss out of the nut end (not the bolt head end) with a propane torch or better yet with MAPP gas (burns a little hotter), and get on it with as long a wrench as you can.

If that doesn't work, get a sawzall and a a couple metal-cutting blades, and cut that sumbitch off.

it can be done without an impact. how do i know? i've seen/helped do it.
took two people, a breaker bar, and holding one wrench and using your foot on the other.

then today with the impact it took two people. one to turn the wheels and one to get bolts off. hmmm easier this way yes.

you dont need to BUY anything. rent it. hell i'll go with you to rent it AND help take it apart, all for the price of a sandwhich!

Again, I did it on jackstands with a basic Craftsman set of tools in my Parents garage when I was 18.

I can drive my car now and I'll be driving my car in the morning.

Going forward I'll keep my suggestions for you to myself.

this is true, in our case we just use some good ol' mexican ingenuity and just start ramming crap into it until the thing comes loose or we break it.

Ha, debated this. But decided it would be a super last resort. Lol

Speaking of going with me, did you go get my parts today? Or finish your control arm?

Like I said before Devon, I called around everywhere cheapest place I found to rent is for $30 at Sunbelt Rental in Parkville. I'll probably buy the HF one tomorrow, if it does not work I'll just return it (They have hassle free returns so not a big deal). I guess text me if you wanna come over tomorrow.

LOL @ this thread getting ugly.

Actually every time I deal with those trans bolts the impact isn't even out, I have 2 wrenches and a 3lb sawed-off sledge hammer.

(really. not being a sarcastic ass about this. hammer on wrench action. do it.)
