Umm, no. Find me a car of the same vintage and mileage that still even runs!!!! Save for some Hondas and maybe Toyotas, you won't find much. How many 1987 Cavaliers are still on the road? Thesse cars are reliable if properly maintained. We just happen to drop a lot of money on extras around here. :D

my car has never ONCE left me stranded somewhere, so I would say that statement is false.

they are expensive cars to maintain and they require lots of attention. that would be more accurate.

Only three times I was stranded.

One was on a Saturday night, my alt belt went, which also does the cooling fan, my car kept getting too hot, so I had to leave it until the next day when Autozone opened to grab a belt.

Second was when the starter fried, I left it at a gas station, let it cool off, then it worked the next time I tried it - it went completely shortly after.

Third was when my strut housing blew out on the highway :) All minor inconvenienves.

I bought my euro and my red 86 ES for $500, and bought my blue ES for $800. I've put 10 times the purchase into the euro, and got more to go, and will put about twice the purchase of the blue into it.

                  Worth...every....fucking...penny :)

In the four years I have had my car, it has left me stranded only once.

I think that is pretty damn good seeing how the PO's haven't taken THAT good of care of it. It still has the original cap and rotor, found that out when we changed the timing belt.

It was a fuel line that was loose, not enough pressure to turn the car over. Once I made Jordan look at it, and let the engine un-flood it was peachy!

My previous car, an 86 Toronado, left me stranded on MULTIPLE occasions, the electrical system was completly shot, the DIC was whaked. It affected the heater and AC. I had windows that were stuck down, and lived in a -10 below climate at the time. The car was only 8 years old when I had it. It lasted only a year and a half.

I will NEVER own anything other than a BMW. Prefferably older models even.

Thank goodness i know a good mechanic!

Psh, thank goodness you live with a good mechanic ;) My car has left me "stranded" once. In my small town of 40,000 people. All I did was call my dad and he came and got me. Found out later it was a dirty Throttle Position Sensor. Car would crank and crank and crank but wouldnt start. Tried it a couple hours later and it started right up. Also started the next morning when I drove 4hrs and cleaned it, and havent had problems with it since. These are VERY reliable high mileage cars.

                      Will

I have not sunk more money into it than the purchase price (20,000)
in 1986, well actually it was my Dad that paid it then.

I have paid more for a repair (2.3k) than the used value of the car (2k)when I had a clutch/flywheel/shifter parts replace - was quoted $1200 but
the final bill came to $2300 after the mechanic said I needed a new flywheel once he was in there and then it had to be dual-mass for my
car since they switched it mid-year. Then he had the gall to joke with
me about how I just bought back my own used car from him.. needless
to say I don't go there anymore and have taken up the DIY thing....

My car has left me stranded plenty of times over the 19 years...dead
batteries due to electrical shorts, several broken water pumps, yes
one wierd stalling problem which was due to a faulty engine temp sensor which shut off the gas, busted or screeming fuel pumps, and I am used to repair bills of $500 here, $1500 there, $700 here, etc my friends who drive Honda cars complain about having to replace the tires-hah!

In Germany there is a saying that BMW means "Bring Mich Werkstatt"
(Bring me to the Garage). If is wasn't for the awesome fun-to-drive
factor and the thrill I get every time I drive it, I would say the hell
with it. 260,000 miles and going strong....

I always spend more on all the E30s I buy, but I am in Germany, and cant see spending over 500 dollars on one. parts are cheap here, and junkyards are full of parts, but the cars repair bills still more than double the purchase price ALWAYS.
My M is no exception either-- it is the money pit of all money pits but Its fun, and I learn alot eveyday.

                              Probably $3-4k or so.

My motherfucker leaves me stranded a few times a day, and what pisses me off is that I didnt buy a piece of shit beather and try to fix it up, I actually got a good one owner car from a guy i new, full service history with the dealer, a proper mint condition car. the guys from the dealership the other day said that they have never seen an 318i in such good condition, i told them looks can be decieving. My cars stalling problem has made it too dangerous to drive. Tomorrow I will strip everything that looks electronic and try see whats wrong.
