E34 pans are much more expensive and you have to remove the trans in order to get the last two bolts of the oil pan, which means you're rather off pulling the motor, which isn't too hard of a task in itself since many 24V guys don't use AC or PS anyway so it's basically unbolting the motor mount and trans mount and unhooking the harness, but many people don't have access or the space to remove their motor.
lol that is true.. but oil pan bursting open and chance of locking up the motor is worth that body shop bill. body shops are cheaper than machine shops...

Ive never seen someone able to mangle a peerless plate like that! Shows how HARD you actually hit...lol
You should definitely show him!Comment

although i love peerless'es plate and i know raceskids would never hold up to anything like this. i cant help but to think that buying a new pan would be cheaper than having to pay to now get the bent frame fixed and having to buy new motor mounts.

I am positive that I wouldn't want to be transferring all of that load to the frame.
Then again, an impact of this magnitude is pretty rare. If you had done real damage to your car you would likely have a case against the city... If there really was a manhole sticking four inches above the road unmarked.

the load transfer with the way the peerless skid plate is mounted has always been a concern to me.
granted you took a HUGE hit, but to someone who does not work at a body shop, this would be a hit that will total an E30 to an insurance company.
frame damage on an old car = total to the insurace company.
i have the raceskids plate on my car, it is not super low (H&R sport springs) and i just pay attention to where i am going.
that being said, in the past few months i have hit a flow master muffler that fell off of the car infront of me at 40 mph and other than scraping it up a bit, continued on my way without damage.
i also hit a sand bag on the off ramp at about 50mph and other than it hitting my resonator and pulling the x pipe off of the header, i also made it through without damage.
i would rather have my oil pan and skid plate take damage as the sacrifical part than my motor arms and frame in a hit like yours.
something at some point is going to have to give, i would rather have it be a part that can be replaced relatively easily.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen
