    almost r3v'd my s52

but thanks to peerless i'm not changing an oil pan... i'm changing motor arms.

so me and a friend were on the way to see skrillex! i was excited as fuck, but anyways.. i don't have pics of the road but they recently tore out the surface without warning and one of those smaller diameter manholes was still there ~4" high. I saw it last second and yelled "FUUUUUUUUCK!" and that son of a bitch threw my front end into the air and my friends tater tots all over the place. I immediately shut it off and pulled over fearing the worst thinking my epic concert night was ruined but i looked and felt no oil and i was so fucking happy. then the next day it idled like shit and i took a better look underneath and saw this!!

i'm in the process of replacing mount arms right now but i'm not sure if my plate will be salvagable. as you can see it put a well sized dent in the frame rail on the drivers side.

now some pics of the carnage..

    it bent the bar slightly

here is the plate itself, i'm hoping i can make it work again.

    dented frame rail

    the motor arms

and the oil pan!! just a couple fins worn down. which is fucking amazing if you knew the level of the impact.

Honest question, is that kind of frame damage worth it / desirable compared to a cracked pan?

fuck yes this gives me hope in my thread:

How far was your plate from your oil pan?

And does anyone know if Race Skids plate is stronger than the one shown by OP?

Not as strong. As you can see the peerless plate is welded to the frame.

What is that brace looking thing that says "save the oil pans?"

EDIT: Ah, let me guess it pushes against the skid plate so it doesn't flex upwards, right?

i've changed 3 m20 pans. i don't know how much worse a 24v pan would be, but i would personally rather tow home and change a pan vs frame damage.

i work at a body shop and the old guy who's been doing metal forever said he could more than likely fix it.. and the fact i have a 260 for trans so i would have to remove it to replace the oil pan... yes lol

E34 pans are much more expensive and you have to remove the trans in order to get the last two bolts of the oil pan, which means you're rather off pulling the motor, which isn't too hard of a task in itself since many 24V guys don't use AC or PS anyway so it's basically unbolting the motor mount and trans mount and unhooking the harness, but many people don't have access or the space to remove their motor.

Then again many people dont' have access to a metal guy that will pull their frame back to normal...
