I don't think anyone wants to see you burn.
I think people are simply upset over the series of events that's unraveled.
As someone who had donated originally, I'm glad to see you're going to fix this supposedly. I think it may be wise to check the attitude at the door in this instance.
You took my money. Plain and simple.
What you did can be considered criminal.

All I'm thinking is use your income tax return? It's not that much in retrospect to pay back. Should be enough based on what most people get.

What's important now is rectifying this situation, trying to salvage and rebuild my reputation and trust here, and most importantly, setting things right.
I want to formally apologize to everyone who donated, and to the community as a whole for my actions.
1 - assess your situation. Do you really like your car? Do you get a feeling from driving it? Is it just a status symbol at this point? Would it be something you could store in the garage and bond with your kids over in many years time? Is your car fun and an overall a good experience?
2 - If you decide to keep the car, sell everything you don't need. As in your 2nd or 3rd set of wheels, extra steering wheels, interior parts, everything you don't need to drive your car down the street. Minimalism is the crux of humility.
3 - take the money you get from the above and invest in your fam, r3v, yan, whoever needs it the most. Your fam should be most important to you and if I may be brief, I'd pick them over an internet forum any day.
4 - realize that your fam is way more important than any internet drama. That should put things in perspective for you. I've been screwed over by e30 owners and have realized that people are people, no matter what car they own. Shitheads will be shitheads. That said, Mr. YAN has been very understanding and acknowledges that a motion of support via donation is a motion of support regardless. So as far as money being owed, it's up to you to decide what you want to do. But I would weigh everything and do what's needed most.
5 - selling your e30 now and buying one later will cost you more money than keeping it, so if your plan is to come back, just skip that bullshit and keep the car

GOOD that is a much better way to go about it. Especially if you do plan on coming back to the e30 scene cause prices of e30's could be even higher when you decide to start wrenching again.

As I said before, I did not donate, I truly hate the outcome, it's sad in many respects. I am not sure selling the car is the best route, though I can see how and why you came to this decision. Make it right and rebuild the honor. Best of luck josh.

To be fair, there was a exposure of risk through the password reset mechanism that came up a couple years ago, but I *believe* that paypal addressed it.
As for sms 2fa, lets hope no one ports your phone number or steals your phone and knows much about you. It is still better than nothing though.
Yubikey might be a better option, so you don't have ten rsa keys hanging around.

selling the car and abandoning the E30 is a cop out.
own up to your shortcoming. (which I think you have) but OWN it.
Selling your e30 in which you built isn't going to solve the issue.
it's a learned behavior.
the e30 will be replaced with something else in which to distract yourself with.
like many have said-
sell some parts from your current e30 until the $1800ish dollars are accounted for and sent proper party.
for me personally, this would be a fair settlement.
throwing your hands in the air and saying F'k the world I'm outta here is the easy way out.
you have 10 years invested into this car.
if anything, put it in storage for awhile.
outta site, outta mind right?
you DO owe it to yourself to not completely lose your shirt over this.
it's a lesson learned, and I think it's coming full circle.
just don't f'k us over again with secrets and missing money8)
