It probably sat in the account for so long to get more donations. Josh said that someone was able to log in change the email and password then start taking funds. Doing this in pay pals eyes isn't fishy at all it's simply someone changing info. If he wouldn't have touched the account and someone would have came in without changing any info and took all the money then maybe PayPal would look at it differently. I've been hacked quite a few times it sucks and I know how companys go about getting hacked accounts back.

Personal responsibility should mean something to anyone with integrity. If you take on the responsibility of collecting and caring for money from everyone, you should damned well ensure it gets where it should.
Why did the money sit in the account long enough for it to be siphoned away to begin with? It should have immediately been transferred, not held for months without any due diligence.
I do understand things happen and forgiveness is important, but Josh needs to feel some pain for this huge mistake and especially for completely covering it up from everyone for so long.
Then own it. Send the guy a perfect glass moonroof or some other insanely rare part(s) out of your own pocket Josh. It doesn't have to be worth the full $2,000, but do something to show you're serious. Talk, at this point, isn't worth a damn.
And to the person who said they've had their paypal account hacked "many times" I really don't know what to say. If it happens once, it's unfortunate, if it happens many times, you're a fool for not doing anything to prevent it happening again.

anything at this point to rectify the situation is simply for entertainment purposes.

To break into a paypal account, you're going to need more than just the password. Paypal, even then required another factor to login to an account from a new computer.

To use a story that someone hacked his paypal account that involved the changing of his personal email address (which I'm willing to wager is his most important email address that is linked to multiple accounts online), would also imply that paypal sent him a courtesy and/or authorization email confirming that this action was in fact made by Josh, himself.
And then there is the issue of time that ak- pointed out. You don't collect money from a forum full of generous people and then simply sit on said money/forget about it for a period like 2 months. Sorry, but no.
Josh, you've been verbal and opinionated about every major thread or issue on r3vlimited for as long as I've known you. You love to post about you new parts or what wheels you are running next. For you to go dark in a thread like this, where money is on the line, left conveniently in you ownership and supervision is not ok. More than not ok, you failed to maintain any form of "transparency" on the issue. You tried to save your own neck with complete disregard for the rest of us.
How did you benefit from keeping this a secret? What good did you think would come of this?
Like a father disappointed in his son, I would consider removing your moderating powers and/or ban you for r3v. You're probably a cool guy in real life, but how you chose to deal with this here situation speaks volumes on your character.

I didn't have a very secure password on the account, and I'm guessing that someone in the community easily figured out and waited until the enthusiasm over the thread had died down, and flew in before I transferred the funds to Yan and began their work. In about the month or so prior, I had actually gotten an email at some point stating that someone had tried to log in to my account unsuccessfully. I had gotten these emails before and not really thought anything of it, as half the time, they're fake or phishing scams. I checked my account, and it was fine.

And situations like this are exactly why I rarely donate to anything online.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, this is not Josh's first offense, although I don't remember what the other issue was. Not shipping things out for a long ass time, or something like that, I think it was.

In light of this information I have removed Josh as an Admin/Super Mod from R3V.
Josh and I had some issues with Paypal at one point (in regards to sending me money), however I was 100% unaware that the funds raised for Yan were lost.
We had an issue where a few advertisers sent us money that was included in this Paypal issue, however I ran the banners anyway and gave them what they paid for... in this case however we had a large community outpouring to help a member, and over $2000 was lost in this process..
Josh, you know what you need to do, and I insist you make it right.
If anyone wishes to speak with me on the matter please email me at my personal gmail account james.crivellone (a) gmail.com
Thank you,
--James

I believe Josh when he says his account got hacked. he should have said something right away though, instead of waiting 3 years.
I would have been embarrassed if it were me, but I'm not sure what I would have done in response. I don't think Josh has $2k to throw around, but I hope he can make it right, even if it's not directly his fault.
Anyone who had stepped up to collect the donations for Yan could have been hacked just the same. the lesson here is definitely don't use your personal account for "business" efforts. Although I did collect some donations a few years back for a cancer ride, it was a pain in the ass, and most people got a tax receipt for it (if they donated enough). I'm not sure I'd do it again, this is one of the reasons..

2FA has been around for years.
The majority of responses here are appalling. The likely hood that the account was successfully "hacked" (to the point where paypal/authorities cannot identify any foul play, IP logs are a dead giveaway) is extremely low. Not to mention the fact that the "thieves" would also attempt to clean out any line of credit or bank accounted attached to his personal paypal account. Not to mention the copious amount of email alerts that would come from all this activity, or the fact that you need to use email confirmations to change information.
The story reeks of bullshit. Josh, lets not touch the fact that you used your personal account for something like this. Why would you sit on the money so long? Why would you ignore the emails from paypal? Why would you wait years to bring it up? In threeish years you really couldn't come up with (lets be realistic here) a mere 2k to replace the money you "lost"? What about all the parts you have purchased and sold on this forum alone?
I'll admit, we as a community could have done more to hold you responsible at the time to make sure the funds got to where they were intended to go. I have seen it too many times, the bag holder runs off with the cash and leaves the community high and dry. You almost got away with it, and in fact did for quiet a while, but I don't know why you didn't just leave. You had to have known this would come to light at some point. No one steals money from a community and sticks around, not sure why you did.
At the end of the day, lets just ban him and move on. Clearly Yan and the community will never see the money again, as made clear by Josh's lack of attempt and desire of returning or acquiring the money owed.Originally posted by SonnyI am a meme for our community.
