Of course the average family with 60K to drop on a big SUV they think they need, wouldn't consider the 1985 version for a second. they go for the brand new one with blueteeth, nav, 50 airbags, and every anti fun acronym so they can drive it while petting their dog, curling their hair sipping their coffee, and keeping the kids entertained.

If it dosent do 70% of the driving for you, it is considered too primitive for the average car buyer of today.

Haha I dunno about wiser. I hate it in principle about as much as I enjoy it in reality. But (with expensive and/or tasty beer), cheers!

You guys seem to think that e30's were like the shit, the enthusiast cars of the 80's. People that bought them back then weren't Senna wannabes - they did blow. They were the exact same people buying 3ers today. The guy that bought my first 318 imported animals from Africa so he could charge people to hunt them. I assure you he's never heard the word oversteer.

This thread is just absolutely hilarious. The condemnation of humanity combined with the disappointment in technology, probably posted by people with iPhones...well it's just good stuff.

(@KenC) No, i just find it funny how many people these days act like its the end of the world when they don't have full bars on their phone, their car dosent have 10 zone climate control, and they think 1 inch of snow makes a road undrivable.

Its really funny watching people who take "first world problems" to an extreme, freak out over such trivial things.

This thread is just a way for people who can't afford new cars to make themselves feel better for it.

I'm poor, love my E30, but would love a new car to drive around, hell, even an E46 sedan or touring, I just can't afford it.

I mean as much as I'm against new cars in general, this thread was started because new cars are so butt ugly and all look identical for the most part.

Also @Bill, I will never own an iPhone, in fact the only Apple product I own and will ever own, is an iPod touch, the rest of their products are over-priced, over-hyped bologna like most new cars.

Some people like to take their car into the shop/dealer to get their work done. Those same people probably like talking on their phones in their cars, and think in-car Bluetooth is quite handy. They probably love using the microwave, and watching tv, and think shit, if I had to work on my car today I would've missed my favourite show.

Personally I think working on cars is an art form, and relaxing, zen as someone on here called it (gorgeous build). Then again, I haven't watched cable since I was 10 years old, and if I had a choice between doing a job on my car and watching an episode of yada-yada, I'd take my car any day.

THEN AGAIN, if I owned a new car, shit, I'd be scared to work on the thing. It's like Indiana Jones digging through the wiring and the insanely cramped layout of most new cars. I see my sister-in-laws '06 Grand Prix's engine bay and shudder.. Talk about snake-pits.

But to bring it back to the thread, I think the interior of new cars are god awful! I feel lost in a sea of plastic shit. If there is anything I hate in this world, it's god damned plastic. I mean if I'm paying 40k-60k for a car, I want a fucking metal car, with very nice hard-wood trim, would that be so hard? Oh yeah, it'd actually mean people being employed and having real skills, not some machine pumping out molded plastic 50cent armrests... Can't sacrifice profit margin for quality, workmanship and a real product.

This thread is just a way for people who can't afford new cars to make themselves feel better for it.

I'm poor, love my E30, but would love a new car to drive around, hell, even an E46 sedan or touring, I just can't afford it.
If I could afford even a cheap new car, say 20k, I would much rather use it to give my two cars complete restorations and have two brand new incredible cars, for the price of one piece of plastic crap.

The only way I'd ever be caught buying a new car is if I had more money then sense, and in that case I wouldn't buy a new car for any practical reason. I'd buy something like a GTR, and have it as one hell of a fun track car, then again, there are so many old cars that I would much rather get and play with.

Fuck it. I need to go for a late night cruise :)

I bought an old, worn out, uncared for E30.
I bought something, that other people do throw away, against new.

I worked on my E30 until my hands and fingers bleed, worked in the winter infront of the house, when it was damn cold, and raining or snowing.
People looking at me, like Iam insane.
Just to get a cold the other day, but who cares, the E30 needed help and treatment.

My dad and me freaked out, when we repaired something, just to discover later that something new is broken, or not working the way it should.
I was close to sell the car, lost my motivation to restore it as far as I could with my knowledge, and especially the amount of money I had (not that much at times).
Later, as we were calm again, get back to the car, and fix the problems that appeared.

Got my last penny with me to a local BMW dealer, to be able to buy all the new parts I needed and could afford.
While I order parts for a 21 years old car, other people order a brand new 80.000€ BMW, but that seems to easy, anyone can do that.

On the evenings and nights, you are searching the internet E30 boards for solutions considering the problems you dont know how to fix.
As you read through, like here on r3vlimited, you discover that you are not the only one in the world, restoring what others call old metal.
Many people do just what you do, and you feel as a part of the community.

On your E30, while you work and repair it, you learn to value even the smallest things on your car.
On a new car, you have electric windows and no one cares, on your E30, you are so happy having them.

After all that, you have a different connection to your car, than just driving a new car out of the box.
Saved a piece of BMW history, to keep it longer on the road.
You cant explain it, you have to feel it when finally driving your E30 around, after you got through all that pain.

The sentence in this photograph stands for everyone in here, keep up the good work guys.

Beautifully said sir. When you buy a brand new car you have no connection to it. You may like how it looks, and like how it drives, or all it's functions, but the fact of the matter is soon it just becomes a car and for the most part will only go down hill, in price, in function, in condition, everything.

When you find yourself an old car, it's usually not in perfect condition. However every thing that is wrong, is just an open door and an opportunity! When you see your car and it has some scratches or dents, it opens up your imagination for everything that it could be in the future. When you think of something that needs replacing, or preventative maintenance, you not only know that when you replace those parts or refresh a system that it will be as good as new, but you have the opportunity to upgrade, or make changes to it that fit your exact liking. Soon the car becomes an appendage of you and when someone says, "hey beautiful car, I love those old E30's, should've never sold mine" (or any old car), and it's more then just a compliment on some object you purchased, it's your car! The car that you've poured blood, sweat and tears into, and NOTHING beats the feeling you have every single time you get behind that wheel and feel her for what she really is, a god damned beautiful machine.

the design of anything BMW imo after the E46 is not in my taste. I'm not much of a SUV fan but the only one that comes to mind is a Range Rover Sport, I've always love the style

cars...i really can't think of any at the moment. Most look alike, hell I thought a Hyundai was BMW or Lexus a few times

Read the above part you wrote then read the below part that you wrote.... You just described every old car made that was once new at one time. And new cars thats coming out will become these old cars. Its a cycle that keeps repeating itself. I cant be the the only one here that sees this? In the past, i'm talking 1980's! people was saying the same about all the cars that was coming out, "OMG look how ugly the new models are, and look you cant even work on them" and so on and so on. But wait! here we are working on them and calling the new models coming out ugly. Now is there something i'm not seeing????? And i'm about to call this the top 20 most dumbest thread on r3v!

JasonC, what you are saying is right in generell, but when you think a bit more, there are some points you have to keep in mind.
Just look at the modern V6 Audi oder Mercedes Benz engines.
They already brake at 150.000 Km or so, because those engines are bad build, especially obstructed, so are the cars sometimes.
Especially on eco cars today, you will discover that companies (producers of the cars) save every Cent they can, just about everywhere.
It was not the same on old eco cars, for example.
Look at an old Golf II, that car lasts, to mention one.
Modern Diesel engines (again VW...) fuel injectors brake, turbo chargers, and so on, and so on. All the time...

Now, you have so much more electronic in todays cars, than 20-30 years ago.
Other parts too, as mentioned above, turbo chargers, intercoolers, all that "shit".
So keeping those cars alive will become much more expensive than old cars, and harder to repair, its just more of everything.
Do you think a private person could repair all that, once these cars reach the same age like our E30's now?
Even, if these cars will become THAT old?
Some modern cars do not even have oil gauge, lol, I dont want to go in so much details now, but I dont think that in 20 years, you will see someone restoring a todays 335D BMW on an internet board...
Yes, people may said that before too, but a 1950 or 1980 car are much more alike, than 1980 cars compared what we have today in 2012, since that computer technology and such developed so fast the past years.
                                Also, electric cars comming up...
However, we completly changed the topic, we started about the looks, now we are talking about what our beloved E30 means to us, while the topic itself was about, if you like the new cars looks or not.
So that is something you cant discuss about, down to everyones own taste.
