    oh NO NO NO!
nothing new bmw is good(imo). their quality is going to complete shit! when i see people everyday choosing to buy a equally priced lexus over a bmw its rediculous. i used to wonder why, then spent some time at the bmw dealership the other week.

the interiors for instance, so plain and boring. and wtf is this dildo in the center console?

and the customer service? well lets just say if you own anything over 10yrs old you will be snuffed at by the dealer!

there are a few new-er cars i'd like, might own one day, hell i was thinking of picking up a z4 to replace my vert, ha that was a dumb idea.

but come one people, we have what we want, we have awesome e30's. people buying new cars dont know how to change a tire or check their oil(and thats how manufactures like it). most are moms or elderly. you know what really makes me sick? when people come to my dealership and ask why their tire pressure light is on. i used to try to teach people you need to check the tire pressures and fill them up when it gets cold. one woman actually said "no, i rather just have you do it". what!?

ugh ima go for a drive

This thread is about looks not reliabilty/quality, i do agree with you that newer german cars have shit electronics reliability though, they should just let japan make their electronics.

That sounds like a grand idea.
I think I'm going to go do the same.

There are certainly some exceptions, but for the most part 'new' cars are big, bulky, and ugly. One of my favorite examples of a vehicle losing its roots is the Toyota 4runner, they used to be cool SUVs with loads of capabilities that weren't too big. Now the damn things are monstrous and ugly as hell.

Honestly, why do manufacturers insist on making cars so much damn bigger. There are plenty of small cars, (granted they arent beautiful) that meet the same safety regulations as bigger vehicles. A new 3series is a comparable in size to an e28. I guess im just fed up with the notion of bigger is better.

Yeah the new 4runners are so god damned ugly, it's sad because they were such good cars for such a long time... Watched many good cars die over the years.
              Different strokes for different folks.

They just follow the market. "Man, this 3 series I bought four years ago has been great, but I want something just a little bit nicer". The next generation is designed to keep that customer, and eventually something fills the gap - it's not new. 3ers -> 1ers, Civic -> Fit, Sentra -> Versa, whatever the hell the Hyundai models are, A4 -> A3, Corolla -> Yaris, hell 911 -> Cayman.

As much as I consider myself an enthusiast, I'm as guilty as the next guy. 10 years ago, I never thought I'd have anything but an e30...couple random cars later, I love my e46 but ya know what? It's a little small and not quite as comfortable as I expected. What's next, come family time? Probably an f30 or maybe e60 (though really, I don't see the e46 going anywhere, it's a blast).

I'm with you the that the older 4runners were awesome. But they did put out the FJ, and I think Toyota has been one of the most boring brands of all in the past decade.

The world isn't ending. Toyota(finally)/Subaru are taking a chance with the alphabet cars, the 370z was smaller/lighter than the 350z, Lotus came to North America and still exists, Mini Coopers (fuck that big one) are out there, Honda tried to reincarnate the CRX, and the CTS-V can be had as a coupe, sedan, or wagon, all with 3 pedals. People just need to buy them.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here.

Plain interiors on new cars? Compare a 91 325i to a 2011 328... well there is no comparison. The luxury of newer cars is 10x nicer. People who buy new BMWs buy them because they want a nice and comfortable car.

Dealerships make money by selling new cars. Do you expect the GM to come running out of the front door rejoicing that you've blessed his parking lot with a 25yo car? You'll get a few techs and shop lackeys that say "hey cool e30," but realistically nobody else gives a shit about it. I love e30s just as much as everybody else here, but I don't expect a red carpet and high fives when I go get an oil filter from the parts dept. Sales doesn't give a shit because I'm not shopping for a car.

You're also making a ridiculous assumption that new car owners don't know how to work on cars. People with new cars don't work on them because they don't have to. If my car had a warranty, I wouldn't even pop the damn hood on it. I have several friends with brand new BMWs, and none of them turn a wrench on them. Why waste a Saturday when you can have it done for you? You're buying the warranty with the new car. You're a moron if you don't use it. A 65yo woman isn't going to go to the gas station and check her tire pressures when the light comes on when she can take it in, have a cup of coffee and chat with the staff while it gets taken care of for her.

One of my best friends had a first gen 4Runner. Cool car for what it is, but I guarantee you the new one will out perform it in every way. The old one was seriously a tin can with a FG roof. Maybe you want one if you're making a crazy rock crawler. But have you ever sat in the back of one for more than 20min? Jesus kill me, it's terrible.

2002 people probably had this same argument when the e30 came out.

Oh and in the 50's you could get build in shaving kits and the likes.

My e46 had some CPO left. Dropped it off for an inspection and headlight/rearview issues, drove a rental Charger (nice highway barge, btw) for free for a couple days, picked it up with a random set of brand new brakes all around, profited.

I love turning wrenches, but I'm sayin'. They washed it and everything.

Same thing that happened to the 4runner happened to the land cruiser. what once was a very nice looking rugged truck perfect for UN trips into africa:

Was then melted in a microwave and pumped full of fat, to morph it into the perfect SUV for surburban housewife Susanne to go get her double latte and the groceries.

You're making my exact point. Sell to the market.

If I plan on traversing the DRC, I'll get an old 80s Cruiser. If I want to haul the family to the ski resort with gear in comfort, I'll get the new one.
