Exactly...every new car that I drive and/or ride in might be (*cough* is *cough*) faster than my E30 but I never feel like I'm any quicker...

If I had a nickel for every time I just came....

      Bravo.

Makes me want to throw an RB26DETT in an E30 and see how it likes 900 horses.

Anyhow that statement about new cars being like riding on clouds or what not is right on point. Newer cars disconnect the driver more and more from DRIVING. In my opinion newer cars are the least safe cars ever made. The driver truly becomes a passenger along for the ride, with a million gadgets to distract, no true feel for actually driving, let along the road and whats around you, it's a disconnected world filled with distractions.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

After working for Nissan for a few years and going to numerous technical training classes I have to say, people driving new cars are hardly driving. Hell you don't have to worry about disabling cruise control when you come up on another car in the fast lane anymore.

Auto braking, cars that wont let you merge if there is a car in your blind spot... ect.

Its all in the name of safety, while creating drivers with no responsibility for, well, their driving.

          it's called progress.
can you believe there was a time that people couldn't buy sliced bread!

I think this thread is kinda bullshit. In 1955 you could order a ton of options in your car to distract you too........
it's called safety. Look at the number of accidents in Germany alone from 1960's- to now. Not saying cars from today are better, but 8 airbags in a car with a crumple zone and proper seatbelts is alot nicer than a 1965 anything car(I would rather my daughter and wife be safer). Yes, 60's cars were MUCH cooler, but not safer, or practical for todays time.

It's the age of throw away. vehicles are meant to be recycled after 8 years max.--just like TV,s and everything else. hell, look at the shitty quality of American houses. by the time they are 40 years old, you NEED to tear it down. not that that is bad either- I hate my crooked 150y/o German house when crap breaks.

What options could you order to distract you in the 1960's? Most options I can think of back then were all geared towards driving, most american muscle cars had a huge variety of different versions/options but it was all driving oriented. The Japanese cars that were imported lacked almost all the options that the JDM versions had available, but even those were all driving oriented back then as well.

I mean both my 280z and 318is lack cup-holders, which may seem like an inconvenience, but eating/drinking while driving is one of the biggest cause of accidents.

In the United states looking at their officially statistics 1960 had the least car related fatalities, period. 2009 is the only year with a lower count but the number is a preliminary result and not confirmed yet.

I hate the age of throw-away, cars are more expensive then they've ever been, inflation accounted for, yet most of them are some of the lowest quality builds seen.

Maybe I'm just not with the times, my morals and values differ from many peoples these days. I grew up in a German household believing in "Do it right or don't do it at all" and that has applied to everything in my life. I believe the only things that should compete with quality are honesty and kindness.

Yes of course if cars were made to last and made with soul, character and for the purpose of driving, then people would buy a lot less of them. People wouldn't be buying a new car every 3-7 years, or sooner. They would feel good about investing a large sum of money in a real product that they can trust in and care for, something they could pass on to their children and know it will be safe and reliable.

But fuck it, slap me in the face, I'm living in a dream that died years ago with humanities soul. I'll be driving old cars till the day I die, and if I die because my car doesn't have crumple zones then I'll die happy knowing I didn't support the fall of man kind.

            End rant.

              Forgot to add.

Can you believe some people still bake their own bread and slice it themselves ;)

Progress is the same word used when they created the first atomic weapons. Progress isn't always good, this reminds me of one of my favourite examples of so called "progress".

Go watch the original Jurassic Park.

We all get caught up in this huge rat race towards "new" and "improved" yet we forget to improve ourselves, and forget the old phrase, "if it's not broken, don't fix it."

Anyway sorry for the ranting, all these gas fumes are probably getting to me ;)

I can afford a new car and could choose from some pretty nice ones yet I drive an eight year old suv and 1984 e30 sedan...I could use a few more but they won't be any newer...

When you inevitably poke your head out of the e30 world and get another car, walk the walk and vote with your wallet - consumers are the reason for the progress you hate. Buy the car you're asking for, like a Toyobaru or whatever car is out that enthusiasts beg for but will never buy.

Many new cars look like shit, no doubt.
They also lack of quality, especially eco-cars, they used to be better long ago.

Yesterday evening my parents friends came to visit.
I had a discussion (that we have on the last pages now) with my dads best buddy about my car.

Why do I drive such an old car, or to be more exactly, why do I care so much for my car, maintain it, spend so much money into it.

You can't discuss about it, thats my experience I made when talking about that topic to other people.
My girlfriend did just lisen to us talking, she said, its like politicans on TV, they talk, and talk, and talk...
And they come to no "agreement", guess you know what I mean.

I love the E30, it is the best car in the world to me, I would not trade it against any other car.
People will never understand that, beside enthusiasts like we are.
But why should I give a damn, about what other people see in my car.
When driving E30, you are riding on a cloud beside angels. End.

M3Philipp you have said it quite well my friend.

My dad and I have had this argument for a long time. He's even admitted that I'm right about every point I make as why buying an old car is better then a new car, yet he is still stubborn.

I've found it's like trying to argue with a drunk, you can make a perfectly stated point supported by a range of evidence from multiple sources yet that doesn't matter when you are trying to argue with a rock. So is life.

As long as I can continue driving my cars I'll be happy :)

I have to agree with the OP, new cars look horrible, at night the lights make em look like spaceships ffs Mercedes BMW Ferrari Land Rover have all disappointed me as far as designs go, hell I wish BMW can bring back the reversed hood opening like on the e30 and e34, like the guy up there, ill never trade my e30 for anything unless its another e30 but ya get the point, some people even says the e30 keeps its style and I still get headturners even though its old

If you have the ability to work on a car yourself, then the argument stands. With shop rates these days, an e30 would nickel and dime you like crazy. Hell, a head gasket replacement at the dealer would produce a bill greater than the value of half the cars on this board.

I wish toyota would do what ford, chevy, and dodge did with the mustang, camaro and challenger.

seeing a revamped 77 corolla would be badass or maybe that mazda or a 510 by nissan.

Toyota won't do that because they want to stay in business.

I think some mazdas and 2012 bmws are ok, but toyotas, hondas, Hyundais, and american brands are bland and ugly as piss.

E30s are nice, they are reasonably sized compared to post 98 cars.
