Hamilton is an idiot. he was going to lose that spot and should have been thinking points and not position.
I was SO HAPPY for Alonso to take it on his home soil though, such exhilaration watching the crowd! Good for him, really glad to see Ferrari getting some back!

I really don't like Lewis, but the blame is all Maldonado's.. He came from OFF the track into the side of Hamilton. As far as the rules are concerned it was fair game going in to the first turn, once he went off track, the position was Hamilton's end of. Stupid move by a stupid driver. He knew his tyres were far better, why push for a gap that isn't there?
Maldonado handed a 20 second penalty, so he placed 12th.
The Venezuelan was penalised for ‘failing to rejoin the track in a safe manner’Tim.

I agree with the stewards decision but Hamilton should have known to concede the position, Hell pastor would have had to give it back anyway . He was the champ leader and he needed to think about risk management at that point. Pastor was going to get him either their or the next lap. The stewards however did get the senna decision wrong. Janderson I think he was upset at himself as he knew he blew it. It doesn't really matter what hammy does your gonna hate it, which is fine.Last edited by naplesE30; 06-24-2012, 01:34 PM.

Their is a time and a place for that attitude, but its not at the halfway point of the season, and with a driver with nothing to lose.
Maldanado has a reputation of wreckless abandon. Had the other driver been alonso, vettel, button, weber or any of the top ten experienced guys they would have just cut the corner given up the position and then re-overtake hammy at the next braking zone. Hammy needed to realize who he was battling with. I also blame his engineer for not getting in his ear and saying we need points. Bring it home in the points. Espc with his attitude/aggresion his engineer should know when he needs to remind him of the bigger picture.
On another point is anyone shocked at hownone of the teams have figured out these tires yet? Teams are still saying they had to adjust their in-race strategy because tire degredation is way off from what they expected. These are teams with huge resources, mega computers, multiple engineers and they still cant get the tires figured out. You dont supose perelli are tweaking their compunds just a bit from venue to venue..... I could see old bernie giving them a wink wink to keep things spicey. I also wonder how much slower it really would be to just tell the driver to go balls out all race and do a 3-4 stopper. Some tracks like canada and even valencia have a small delta time in the pits. It wouldnt be hard to make up 12-20 sec you would spend making an extra stop.

So I'm trying to figure out if that F1 track is still being built in New Jersey.Originally posted by HarryPotternot to be racist but i've had multiple african americans comment on how they love my car. I've seen pics of e30's rolling through africa with at least 15-20 africans on them with ak-47's. WILD. its in the african blood. Hope this wasn't too racist, forgive me as I am intoxicated.

Maldanado had all 4 tires over the white line, which means he would have had to give the position back.
Hamilton had no responsibility to 'cede the position because he was on worn tires. Look at how a typical pass is made, the guy on the outside always get's pushed off the track........they are usually just smart enough to back out of it instead of lose the car.
Maldanado should have backed out, gathered his wits and an attempted elsewhere.
But his typical asshat style of driving, he just ran into Hamilton............remember Monaco in practice when he decided to intentionally hit someone when he was mad? He has a terrible demeanor on track, and hence the penalty.
Hell Maldanodo did the same to Webber on the last turn earlier in the race. It's how it works.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Well, despite all the arguing, you only need to consider one thing...Hamilton got ZERO points and Alonso got 25. Maldonado, at fault or not, has very little to do with it at that point.
Hamilton (and crew) should have been thinking big picture and known that his tires were gone. Hamilton was 5 seconds up on Hulkenberg, and 6 seconds up on MSC/Webber. He might have finished 4th or 5th, and earned 12 or 10 points.
Hamilton has never been known for conserving anything, and especially not his tires, don't forget China in his rookie year. He is the example of a very fast driver, but not a very smart one.
Bitch all you want, but at the end of the day Alonso earned max points on his (then) closest competitor in the championship.

I don't understand the hate for Hamilton? I'm as far from a Hamilton fan as you can be, but that crash was 100% Maldonado's fault. McLaren had no need to think about conservation as their car (and his driving style) is harsher on the tyres than everyone else, they knew when choosing that strategy that his tyres would fall off the cliff with a few laps to go. A dodgy pitstop put him in that position, he would have been second or very close to it IF the pitstop went smoothly. In their mind they had to make the position back- not let everyone by and think about getting less points. He is paid to compete for first place, not to cradle his tyres to the end.Tim.

I think he/they would be the first to admit they would be very happy with 12 more points right now. They were never in a position to win or expected to. From the onset of the weekend they knew this was a tough track for their car, and were rather ecstatic with starting on the front row. I was under the impression that a win was never a possibility for the team and they were just hoping to bag some solid points.... Every team knows this year is all about consistancy and finishing races. I think everyone is in agreement the dnf was on PM, but it was also very very avoidable if hammy had a decent head on his shoulders. You could see the whole incedent develop from 3 corners before. Pastor was clearly pushing wrecklessly and hamm was fighting a losing battle. PM inexperience was evident as was LH lack of judgement. I really feel the team more specifically his engineer shoulder some of the blame.... I also feel had they not botched his pit stop things may have been different in regards to track position and radio communication.... Im sure everyone was on eggshells after another dropped stop and wanted as little radio chat as possible so LH didnt go off on the team over the air..... You could just tell when they told him he had fallen to 6th that the team were bracing for an outburst.
