Petition to repalce check engine light with something useful

I have enough trouble with customers who come in saying "ohh i read on the forums its xxxx" or "yea, that sounds like a xxxx to me". I work at at Audi dealership in service and the last thing i want is more customers coming in thinking they know whats wrong with their car.

People that "know" enough about their cars to get them in trouble. I hate them.

I really like the fact that tech is making it's way into engine management. I just don't like the fact that you need "special" tools to do anything on any of the newer vehicles, but I guess they're worth the investment if you're going to keep your car.

Do you guys really think a stomp test is better than an obd-2 scanner? I fucking hate the stomp test. I swear, half the time it's totally incorrect and just leads you on a goose chase.

What is the average consumer going to do with the faults? Freak out? Try to tell techs like me how to fix it?


No thanks. I already have customers telling me how to fix their cars. The last thing that needs to happen is the dummy light turns into something more to have to deal with.
