Basically, there is a petition to replace the useless POS "Check Engine" light on new cars with something that you don't need a scanner to read and that will display the error on a screen.
Check it out, even if you don't own a new car, one day you may, or may buy a used car that will be newer than an E30 at some point and this would be a benefit to everyone.

I signed it, I think it's a fantastic idea to have the government enact a law forcing auto manufacturers to change the design of their vehicles because I hate capitalism. :)
Won't make a lick of difference though, every issue is cause by "the sensor" anyways so they might as well change the illuminated symbol to read a static "THE SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED" and be done with it.

This is a stupid idea. If you want to pretend to work on cars, you need to buy the right tools.

Maybe if the gvmnt would fuck off and quit requiring the automotive industry to do shit we wouldn't have OBDII and everyone would be putzing around in e30s and e28s.
Also, thread title.... "repalse"? Please make the necessary changes to correct a win on the part of dyslexia.

For example, if the MAF code comes up, it's probably a vacuum leak or something of that sort, but the average joe wouldn't know that. I say this is a horrible idea that wasn't thought through thoroughly
This.
I have enough trouble with customers who come in saying "ohh i read on the forums its xxxx" or "yea, that sounds like a xxxx to me". I work at at Audi dealership in service and the last thing i want is more customers coming in thinking they know whats wrong with their car.

as said, a $20 adapter and a free App, you can read/reset codes to your hearts content.
I'm thinking whoever thought of this idiotic petition has no business working anywhere near an OBDII car in the first place.
