    91' 318is or 87'325is

What would you do? I like the fact the 318 is not pre 88' so it looks alot cleaner and has good suspension, nice rims, few mods, etc.
But i found an 87 325is with low miles in mint condition completely stock but id like something 88 or newer as i hate the rear ends of the pre 88 cars.. Anyways this is my situation right now and i cant decide what i want to do.

plastic bumpers own. and its not just that either. there are many small things you won't realize until you drive around in it for a few weeks. i'd go w/ the 318... does it have a LSD?

wow the color combo for the 325is is lovely..and its 2 grand cheaper..

you can always use that money to get some euro bumpers which will look better than any "later model" out there!!

whats the mileage on the 318...if its really low than it may be worth it..because they are i would say somewhat more reliable and more updated than the M20..

it all comes down to your preference..just my

is there much difference in gas consumption between the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines? Also i have a 325e already and what thinking about getting 325i head, throttle body, fuel injection, new cam, etc for it and having it as my track car. Then i would be using the 318 to get to school, pickin up the woman and what not lol. I think this would be a good direction to head as the 325e has low miles and is in good shape.. It is 4 door but thats no big deal, it would still pulll.

The 318is will easily get 6-10mpg better depending on driving style, state of tune, etc...

Who cares what it looks like.. (bumpers) i think the 4 cylinder is simply a better engine.

Do some of the 4 cyl mods in that 'tuning' thread and have a nice rev happy 4 banger.

The price difference might be enough to sway me though.. 2 grand is not exactly a small amount of money.

go w/ 325is if it's manual. Just spend the rest of the money and get euro bumps, but it's really all depends on your choice, i'd go with "euro" 325is

Only $2K for a "mint", low-mile '87 325is? You had better pick that up. If you got sick of the bumpers or really craved better gas mileage (my old '87 325is with a very free flowing exhaust got 30mpg on the highway), you could always sell it and easily make money in the end.

I've driven M42 cars before, and if you're used to even a stock M20B25 car you'll be missing the torque and smoothness all day long.

I'm generally in the plastic > metal bumpers group too, but a clean '87 325is is much more special than a 318is. An '87 'is with tucked, painted bumpers looks great. Or you could go euro, which is arguably better than plastic anything.

Also, all of the 318is' I've seen have few options. 325is' generally come completely loaded, if that matters.

I like the 318is, but I think I'd go with the 87 325is. it's stock, cheap, and you can spend the extra $2k on things like maintanence and euro bumpers (would look great with an Mtech kit).
