Wow that sucks. It's only 20 in maryland. I just registered my '91 as historic last year. Now you can register any e30, as long as it's not a '93, but those are very rare.

So then you have rolling piles of crap on the road in most cases. In PA they have 2 tags, antique you have no inspection, but the car has to be 25+yo and look like it came off the show room floor. That dont mean that all of the historic tagged cars/trucks are rolling piles of crap ;) I wouldnt mind seeing it cause of the people who are abusing the Historic tags are going to make it harder for the guys with a nice classic car or truck to have these vehicles on the road if maryland ever desides to get anal about enforcing what the tags are ment for. These plates cannot be personalized and just use a numeric specifier.

True. I see your point but weither they start trying to crack down on people using them on daily drivers or if they change the law it would suck for people like me either way. But I would choose to take my risks with the first case rather than just have them "jump the gun" and actually change the law to the way it is in PA.

I never had a regular MD tag cause I registered it as historic as soon as I bought it, last year. On my red e30 I still have NJ plates on it from before I moved but thats another story, i'll register it as historic here in MD soon. There's nothing "wrong" with a regular tag, I just see getting it inspected as an extra inconvenience and hassle, besides the fact that I have straight pipes in the center section where the cats would be.(but stock muffler)

In GA you can get antique plates for anything 25 years or older i think. You don't get any perks or restrictions with the tag, though. At 25 you also dont have emissions tests anymore (assuming your county has them at all in the first place).

One cool thing we can do on pre 1970 cars is run a plate from the year of manufacture on our cars. GA plates pre '70 had the year stamped into the tag so you had to replace them every year. You have to have it registered normally and keep the "real" tag in the car. I have a 1968 GA plate on my 1600-2, it's a lot better than the current offerings.

I see all your points. For car guys its a good thing with these tags. And i think MD has Street Rod tags that you can run open headers on. But i just hate to see people buying beaters that are not really road worthy, and maybe one day get the whole 'historic" tag law in MD looked at. And questions being raised to how they are being used. The Historic tags in MD are very car guy friendly, but since MD is kind of strict with things, it could turn into something worse.

We have that here in Va. as well.....and our old tags were mostly black, which makes them even better.

I rock some 1970s on my GT6 (and regular "antique vehicle" tags on my e30 rallycross car - since rallycross is a "car club activity")

Also in Va. you have to prove you have a "daily driver" car registered normally, or they won't even let you get vintage tags.
