I like the way they look, but be prepared to open your wallet, break your piggy banks, and whip out your credit cards any time that V12 needs work..
and I wouldn't touch a benz with a 10 foot pole. BMWs may not be perfect, but people I know with benz's are always having trouble with them. parts are more expensive too..
Dracut MA, no kidding -I'm right down the road in Haverhill.
They're right - the V12's just plain take up too much damn room. Unless you're a sucker for punishment (and getting screwed on repair costs) then shy away from them. 740i's are fine - one of my favorite cars is an E38 740i.
740s are no good either. If anything, they have a lot more problems than the V12s. The thing about it is that parts are cheaper on V8s and they are a lot easier to work on.
The only E32 that comes anywhere even close to 'reliable' would be a 735, but even those have head gaseket issues and electronic troubles.
I guess so.... I like the relaibility of Merc... my dad's went to 320k, my grandmother drives an s500 now, and in general I am used to seeing them at 200k plus witout too many problems.
I already have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler that I would not be trading in, plus my old e30, an 04 Honda bike, as well as a Honda jetski, so I dodn't want to go too far cost wise. I might even pick up an old Volvo 850 for commuting......
My family used to own a mint '92 alpineweiss 750iL from '98 -'01. I loved that car, classic styling and great power for its time. It never gave us any problems that I can recall, but parts were definitely expensive if it would have broken. When my parents sold it, it had 90+k miles and was still running like a top. I'm not saying they're all reliable, but a well maintained one should be ok.
I see it on the road every once in a while, and it still looks mint. I'm still pissed my parents sold it to get a friggin Yukon.
