    G-Force Meter for the E30

Just curious if anyone is interested in a g-force meter for the E30? I just finished soldering one, now I need to figure out how to mount it and where.

Ill post pictures of the meter it self tonight, then figure where to mount it. If I have enough interest I might be able to sell them for about $80.

I am thinking maybe mounting it in an air vent, that way it dose not matter if you are LHD or RHD.

What kind of instrument did you use to make it? I did some skid pad testing for a sway bar I made for my engineering capstone project and I bought an accelerometer/gyro from sparkfun electronics and it worked flawlessly. I'm just curious what you chose to use. And so it just has a digital readout? Any data logging capabilities?

Curious, what would be the purpose of this? The g's that an e30 would be making doesn't seem to be anything of use.

I can't remember exactly, I did not come up with it my self. I was down at my local electronic shop and they sell it as a pack. Though some of the guys here would like one as well. Ill post specs and pics tonight.

I have not even mounted it in my car yet. I believe it dose have data logging but required an add on ill get back to you on that. It is limited to 2g's and is also affected my gravity.

For example if you reset it on flat ground then go park on a hill it will have a small reading on it because it is on the hill. It is very simple but good fun.

If you mod you car you will be able to see what affect it has on performance. It is a bit gimiky but some people will like it or use it.

                  Some pictures

So it will read forward backward left and right with a maximum of 2.00g's. For those who are interested it is built around the 3 axis MEMS accelerometer and PIC18LF14K22 Micro Controller.

                      Cheers Bro

It would of course be hooked up to the car power with out the switch. As soon as I have mine mounted ill get a cost together and put up a group buy.

I have a 2-axis accelerometer installed in my ECU. Only got to use it for a couple Autox's. The Y-axis burned out though, bought a new one to replace it but haven't put it in yet.

Nonsense - 1+ G is pretty easy with stiff suspension and sticky rubber. Well, I guess you could be right, since everyone seems to want 195s on a 10" wide rim and suspension so low the camber curve is inverted and the roll center is in china. :p

ignore the X-axis, I didn't have a VSS input yet unfortunately.

                          Y is acceleration/deceleration and X is cornering.

                            OH HOLY LOLY

I had an accelerometer in my car once because I was pretty sure I was approaching 0.75-0.80 G on a sharp corner at 55mph and wanted to verify it. Not even close.. 0.45 G :P
