You are still missing my point. Why would bmw go to the trouble to homologate to the level of the sport evo and not address the sunroof? E36 M3 lightweight, e46 CSL, E92 GTS, 1M and M1 all don't have a sunroof. You think people paying extreme premiums for these cars (maybe not the e36) wish they had a sunroof?

I know that their racing cars did not have sunroofs but I'm not sure how that got away with it since DTM rules stipulated that the race car is not allowed to have any deviations in the areas of aerodynamics and sheet metal from the 500+ production models. Sound like a sheet metal violation...

    What is a Evo III?

I can understand if you personally don't like sunroofs (I don't agree), but if you're going along those lines -why not delete AC, the radio, carpet, sound deadening, etc etc? Because they were street cars sold for a premium. I think they were something like 80,000DM. that's a shit ton of money in the late 80's. Imagine you bought a $150,000 car, that had less stuff on it than a $30,000 base model 318is. who would buy that?

evo III = 3rd generation sport evo. They were pretty much decked out with everything BMW could throw at them. I gaurantee if you owned one, you wouldn't care that it had a sunroof. :)

        Answered!

I just found the options list for a sport evolution. A sunroof was an option unlike any other m3 offered. You could get manual, electric, or slicktop. The radio, AC, OBC, and even leather SRDs were all additional options for the SE. Rad.

The same people that buy the other cars I listed that have less equipment and cost 20-50% more than the better equipped (creature comfort-wise) standard car. For the GTS, you pay a premium not to have AC, then pay again if you want it fitted. And they probably sold out within minutes.

          I don't have a sport evo but I sure wish my US M3 didn't have a sunroof.

I know what a evo III is. Its a misnomer.

            seriously though, nice troll post.
5 liters made 210 HP and 270 ft lbs. HP per liter is a dumb argument. and a 5 liter would run away from m3, and race motors were probably making over 500.

ok - it's funny, because there was actually a single Mustang GT that raced against the M3 and Mercedes in the DTM series. the poor guy got clobbered.

It's fun enough to drive in traffic if you keep the revs over 6k. :nice:

IIRC, that's because it wasn't a GT. It was the SVO 2.3 liter turbo.

Funny that it takes a V8 Bogan to rice out a jap car. Must be a Street Machine reader.

DJR ran a Group A Mustang in the Australian Touring Car Championship. In Group A trim it made ~350hp. Whilst it was a reliable race car, it lacked the pace of the rest of the field and was eventually replaced by the RS500 Sierra.
