Yeah that is definitely a good point. All the fun I have in the winter is made up for when trying to fix things in the summer.

I'm willing to bet there were certain days you couldn't make it up Agate Street though. :D

Lada purchased the designs and a lot of mfg equipment from Fiat..and comparing Russian QC to Italian (in those days) is...well...like comparing 1 old beer can to another :)

Eh - i own both. The subaru was a huge dissapointment in the snow in comparison. My ix will drive circles around it. I want to sell it and get a newer Xdrive 5 series wagon. Given all the hype, i was expecting it to be way better than the e30, but it just isn't.

And funnily enough, the awd systems are similar. Except the sti, the transfercase and rear diff use a vc to control slip, just like the e30.. Only the e30 is better balanced, lighter, and the rear biased torque split means you can rotate with the throttle. And other than the turbo models, the subaru motors are embarrasing.

I had an STi and an old 2.5rs and they've far surpassed any awd system that I've driven.
BUT, I've never driven an iX.

Well, you cant use an sti to say all subaru awds are the best, because it's tuned for performance (and actually has power). The "normal" subarus are overhyped. And what other awd cars have you driven? *Most* of them aren't very good. :p

I'm going by ownership of TWO subarus. As well as all the other ones that I've at least driven.

One the fancy-pantsy STi (04) and one an older, slower, more basic model (2000 2.5rs)

Out of curiousity what kind of tires did you have on both vehicles? They make a huge difference in snow traction (as I'm sure you know).

Both have dedicated snow tires. actually, the tires on our subaru are better than what's on the E30 - 5 year old, half worn blizzak ws50's.

I can get away with stuff in the e30 that i wouldn't even consider in the subaru. It's just more nimble & responsive.
