    m50 in 2002?

So.. Ive seen a couple build threads on it.. one wasnt really complete and the other isnt even really a thread.. What would need to be done to make it work? Ive got this idea spinning in the back of my head..

Why? An M50 in that chassis will handle like a boat I'm sure

well.. ive got an m50 with 60k in a wrecked e30.. and a 2002 about 3 hrs away from me that a friend wants sold... different i guess? that i guess is a downside, that the engine is kind of heavy for that chassis.

i know it'd be a big project.. but im trying to think what would have to be done

sure its heavier than than other choices, but its really the best value out there. the power gain is the same as putting in an s14, just a little more weight with it.

To much work, and a lot of stuff you have to swap over. Looked into myself, better off putting in a M20. Look up Paul Cain, then see if you are man enough.

I disagree. is this based off of experience or speculation?

Unless you're willing to put as much effort as Paul did into his swap (tranny in rear, etc.) than it's not a good value (even though it might seem that way on paper).

The only way something like this would be remotely worth considering is if you used the alloy block out of the Z3 (250lb. [incidentally the same weight as the M20] compared to 300lb iron block engine).

Just get an e30 shell and swap over everything you already have.

2002's are really cool but I wouldn't put anything but a 4 cylinder in it. S14 2002's are sweet... and very fast.
If you want to swap a 2002 I would do an s14. If your budget is too strict for that then do an m42 swap.
m50 swap into a 2002 is pretty involved from what I know. Do some searching on 2002FAQ.com

Dear OP. huge engine in a little body is called a hot rod. I say do it all the way. Sounds like a cool idea and will make some nice power. Lots of people are doing it in england. Just be safe and have fun.

                        Good luck.

Last summer my friends and I put and entire e30 subframe set, suspension, diff, modified D/S, g260, m20, 524td manifold, t3 turbo, e30 firewall, and e30 trans tunnel in a 75 2002. It's a LOT of work. If you don't use the tunnel, the trans won't fit and if you don't modify/change the firewall, then engine will stick 4" out of the front of the car.

Took 3 major fabricators and probably about 4-6 extra sets hands hundreds and hundreds of hours to do. Every night and all weekend for months, many many 3 or 4am nights. We started it the night before the $2011 Grassroots Challenge (1st week Oct), the project started beginning of Aug.

^Exactly, this isn't something some to take lightly, it will require extensive re-vamping to get to function well (and re-vamping being done by someone who does this for a living, not someone who's source for knowledge is a forum). I know how long it took the guys next door to do their Import Tuner shootout car with M20 turbo/E30 suspension/Diff. NOT for the feint of heart.

I assume that the particular car you're talking about was sporting the RedBaron motiff?
