I only wish the rear tails lifted out like E34 tourings to make it easier to load heavy and big shit in the boot. Also, my hatch has completely rusted to shit as well. I do like mine, though, I've used it to haul shit that a coupe/sedan couldn't.

How do e46/e34/e39 tourings compare to e30 tourings in the space department?

yeah, the stupid dip in the middle is dumb.......I wish it had the hatch straight across or had the lights integrated into the door so the load point level was lower...it is such a pain in the ass to load stuff......and you can't sit on it comfortably.

I dunno what you guys are talking about, I LOVED the utility of my touring. Sure the thing pooped out above 140kph, but it was perfectly fine to toss around the farm roads in Germany. Got great fuel milage, and I hauled a ton of crap in mine.

I want to buy a Daytona Violet Design Edition and import it when it reaches 25 years old... Working with a few German friends to hid one in their barn for a few years.

Hey Steve! Long time no talk. Could be possible. I'll be home over the summer and we can strategize!

What engine did yours have? I'm stuck with the M40. Thing is starting to leak from the profile gasket. I have an M42 I'm rebuilding to put in it when the timing belt lets go.

I feel like around town I have to push it too much to get it moving and that it really impacts fuel consumption. The soft touch rev limiter is also a pain when I take it to track days.

                          I wish!
I would love to get a hold of one and build it up for my pops. It's definitely better than his testosterone drain he drives now that is a mini-van; the vehicle for people who have officially given up on life.
A touring would be great for him cause it would give him the liberty to do what he does and haul who and what he wants AND give a needed kick to the boys whenever he feels like it. Best of both worlds :)

Mine was the M40 318. It was a bit gutless, but that was most of the fun! I'd bang that thing off the rev limiter every day, and I still got good fuel milage. 7L/100km I think (it's been a few years). If I do acquire a Daytona violet DE one, I'll be doing an M42 swap... to me that is the perfect DD.

Might want to look at an E34 touring. They are cheap and plentiful. The E30 doesn't have a whole lot of back seat room to load friends into.

the e34 touring only comes in automatic.

imo, the 5 series doesnt get the cult following of the 3 series because they make so many in automatics. Even the sedans are mostly autos.
also obviously not in a 4 cylinder. but e34 tourings are very nice other than that.
Kind of the perfect combination of old style and the modern m50
