Why do Hondas want to race?

    I'm driving a 4 door 1991 318i.
It's Diamond Schwartz, pretty stock looking.
Still has the stock "sewing machine sound" muffler.

We're not talking an M3 or a 325is that has an aggressive looking stance,
or a car that has custom rims and an aftermarket exhaust.

But some guy in a Honda had to get next to me and start accelerating
and decelerating as if to challenge me.

It seems like Hondas are always wanting to go as fat or faster
than me, even though I'm not trying to change lanes in front of
    them or anything like that.

There was also a WRX that had the same issues, but the Hondas...

this is the same complaint I get from my older Brother. He drives the same identical car as you do.

Hondas, those cars are rare and priceless.

they see the BMW and think they have to out do it. But when in reality, their car cost more then the e30 then they are trying to race lol.

Just casually pull them into the turn then watch the gap open up.
Especially fun to do when I'm driving my 40 year old 2002 with faded paint and skinny tires.

Add to this the fact that I'm a 51 year old man - I don't look
like the kind of person who has to prove himself all the time.

Besides, how much skill does it take to out accelerate someone
else driving on the freeway? Let's see, pull next to him, mash the gas,
stay in the lane. Really tricky there. Oh, I left out the part about spending
$18,000 on mods like a CF hood and 12" subwoofers. That takes years
                      of practice.

If you want to challenge me, at least do it on a winding road.

If you want me to race you, invite me to your car club's autocross
                      or rallycross.

Sure, I love doing donuts in a vacant field as much as anyone, but
if I want to know where my skills stack up against other drivers,
I'll do it at a real race - or other event (like drift or TSD)

I raced my friend's 2011 autotragic Honda civic for shits and giggles in my eta and i won. To say the least he was surprised.

most honda owners are of the younger demographic. Also a lot of mexicans want to race. I owned an 03 Si Hatchback, but ep3 owners are a lot better than most of the honda owners.

This is why i like drag racing from a dig. It takes more driver to handle the car then to just hit the gas at freeway speeds.

Reaction time is also more important in drag racing than it is
from a running start. I did some drag racing back in the late
1970's... back when Orange County International Raceway was around.

I started with an 80cc Yamaha (Champ, AKA Bop). 29 seconds at 41 mph.
One Wednesday night Shirley Muldowney pulled up next to me on the line.

My friends in the stands were jumping up & down cheering...
but the track officials pulled me off to the side (safety concerns).

Of course, by the time I broke out of the staging lights she would have
been 50 yards down the track... but a catastrophic engine failure could
have got me with shrapnel, I suppose.

I would have risked it to run against her just to say I did. I wish someone
would have taken a picture. I'll bet there is one somewhere out there...
