According to Multi Media Design and Production teachers (taking this course in college) the minimum should still be 800x600. I don't like it anymore than you.

But take this into consideration. Is your audiance people at work, people at home, gamers etc etc etc
This is true. I still design for 800x600. Doing a poll on a forum based with a bunch of kids into cars and computers isn't going to be an accurate representation of interweb users.

It is if the web site is based for the E30/BMW community.

The site will work just fine on 800x600.

I'm also 1152x864. Works pretty well for me on my 17in monitor.

                          i run 3200x1200 (dual 21" screens)

but just as a point of reference... I am the lead designer for an advertising firm that does a huge amount of web based advertising... basically our general rule of thumb is that that any page must be designed in a way that all important content (ie navigation, important logos, and page content) be 760px wide or less

alright who are the three poor saps running 800x600? are you just blind or is a $100 17" monitor really out of your price range? :o

and if it is what the heck are you doing on a BMW website!

It would be their video card that can“t handle any more,

what video card can't do more than 800x600? even a 5 year old 2mb card can do 1024. My old 4mb card in my router does at least 1280x1024 24 bit color! it might look like ass but that's another story. :)
