Bluffing the sales man? How to get a ride in a new BMW?

OK - I use to scope out used car lot all the time for anything euro. Say a e30, or maby a VW 16v gti, what ever I could find. Merc 190, sabb 900 turbo...anything cool.

And I would always use the same lame story. Lame, but alway got me a test drive with the salesman letting take the car without him.

"Hello, I looking to buy a new car this week.
*what are you looking to spend????*
Ummmm, you mean price range? No not really. I have to run it by me mom. But I'm willing to spend what the car is worth. If I find the right car it's not a prolbem." BLAH BLAH BLAH....

With that line in my ho-dink town I was always giving the keys to a car. Sometimes told to keep it over night. Lets just say I found the limits of a sabb 900 turbo, a m10 318i, masda 626, pegot 605, mercur xr4ti turbo, 2.3L mustang, e36 325i(that I sware the sales man wet himself on the freeway onramp when I was bouncing off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd just to merge in freeway taraffic)

    Besides the point....

Want line/scam do you guys use to hook up a ride in a new bmw? Any tried and true methods? I live in high-rent town, and they can smell BS a mile away. Went on the lot years ago, and they wouls even do so much as let me start up a 5 series.

any advice? I would love to rock a z4 for the night....

    ....

Show up in a fairly expensive car and propose to the salesman that you are looking for a vehicle to use as a business card. You have just been pre-approved on your business plan to open a new performance shop.

Money is not a problem and tell them you will be paying with cash/check.

I went to a dealership once in my friends e34 and started to look heavily at Honda S2000's. I told the women the same story more or less.
Before my friend and I knew it we had to a S2k.

Dress nicely, be prepared to answer any question pertaining to your business.

Never ever be uncertain! Keep eye contact!

Get to know the people there. Being a CCA member, going to racing events, always being up their buying parts or scheduling service. They have demo cars (unless its the first run of something special like an M).
      Im now E30less.

Bingo. Salesmen aren't there to give joyrides. Some 20something that shows up in a car as old as he is is just there to waste his time. These guys are commission, and high commission at that. Grow 10 years older.

I've never really had an issue getting test drives, I usually just go up and say "who do I talk to about a <X>?" For trucks I usually just ask for the fleet manager, sit him down and bullshit for a bit. I've gotten 2 hour test drives with no one in the passenger seat without even giving them my liscense or insurance info.

That being said, I'm usually looking at ~25k vehicles, and not sports cars, so this is easy as cake.

So, you cruise the "buy here, pay here" lots and then go flog the POS cars?

I wouldn't give you the keys either.

George- Seeing as I work there and know all the salesman personally, I could easily get you a test-ride in a Z4. But know that they would never let you keep a car overnight, it just never happens. I am able to drive any car I want, whenever I want because I work there. They know I am not going to buy it or anything, but it is based on principle that they give me the keys.
All you have to do is go in there with me and we can get you a road test without issue.
Hell, I have driven 2 E60 ///M5's already and nobody blinked twice at letting me do it either. (granted I was on my PDI road test, but nobody cared that I was driving it)

350z -told him it was a graduation present, bullshitted about my parents building a house in ellicottville (local ski country area about an hour away) etc etc

new wrx when they first came out- pretty rational, tol dhim i just wanted to finance a new car, had the dp in cash, etc. which was true, but i didnt really want a wrx.

330ci -same story. 330 was true, i was seriously considering it but decided to spend the dp money on an e30 and a 240z and an r6, and not be broke the rest of the time lol.

I just go with my dad. We test drive 2 seaters and no salesman is gonna tell me to stay at the dealership while he and my dad go drive the car. As soon as we get around the corner from the dealership my dad pulls over, I jump in the driver's seat for a while then about half way through the drive my dad takes over again and we return to the dealer.

I'm old enough and have good enough credit that it wouldn't be a problem. a while back the local scooby dealership gave me a WRX for a day.. we didn't drive the car hard, honest!

and I don't think a (nice) E30 is going to make them go "OMG cheap R3v kiddies!" All they will see is a BMW badge (at least that's been my experience).
