If the engine mounts go they can cause the fan to cut the radiator hoses.

I don't think anyone mentioned motor mounts. They are cheap and the 20 year old ones will shear off during aggressive driving, which turns your engine into a wreaking ball in the engine bay.

i'd say get your mind off the kit. a dssr is very nice (i have one), but properly fitted linkage bushings go a LONG way on their own, and will cost a fraction of an AKG kit as you'll have to replace them anyway even with a dssr. maybe spend the money saved on solid fcabs and tie rods. there's nothing like a solid front suspension.

    in this order:

    blunttech.com, gutenparts.com, ecstuning.com, com

    and familiarize yourself with realoem.com.

I guarantee you'll never have another part number or ordering question again!

Personally I'd check out the AKG short shifter, or go for the Z3 1.9 or other short shifter with the DSSR if possible/necessary.

In all fairness though, if you're stuck with UUC, their shifter (once you've got the right parts) feels very good.
+1, but for different reasons. I still have the DSSR, but I ditched the shift lever (though I still need to sell it). It's needlessly over-engineered, and overly complicated to install. Hated the feel of it. Huge waste of $300+ IMO. Right now, I have the stock lever in with the DSSR and a ZHP shift knob, and I love it. The throw could be a little shorter though, so the Z3 1.9 lever mentioned would be just about perfect. I plan on installing one later.

Make sure you go ahead and get a bushing/linkage rebuild kit for your shifter while you're at it. The short shifter kit doesn't include this and you could still have some serious slop with just shorter shifts
