Just did a small marathon drive...

Well, I went back to Sacramento to have thanksgiving with my girlfriends family. I drove back to Santa Barbara today by myself (girlfriend is flying back on monday) and I did it all in one non-stop trip. The drive is 420 miles each way. I got gas this morning and started out. I went the whole way back to my house without making any stops. I averaged 28.7mpg, 74.5mph, drove it all in 5hrs 40min. The OBC says I have 45miles left on the tank, but the reserve light has been on for 10 miles.
I do this drive a lot, and this is the first time I have done it non-stop, and on the same tank of gas. It is also the best mileage I have averaged and with quite a good avg mph aswell.
I did it in the E36. Ran like a champ, no issues what-so-ever.
Anyway, hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

I did a lot of driving myself as well. I drove across the state back to Sarasota from West Palm Beach on Wednesday, saw my friends and family and then drove to Tampa on Friday to fly to CT to attend my grandmother's funeral. Tomorrow I am flying to Tampa and then driving to West Palm, it should be about 10 hours total of travel.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

Furthest I've ever driven was just south of Portland and back in a day, about 600 miles. I averaged ~80mph (including stopping to pee, getting gas, and chatting with ken for 45 minutes). by the time I got home my nerves were jittery from avoiding several accidents, cops, and being vibrated to death by a bent bottlecap...

I think you should be able to do 50-60 miles on the reserve. the most I ever did was 75 miles on reserve, was a little wierd seeing the trip odometer at 380 miles when I normally only get to 300 (I somehow managed to average 26.5mpg with a trunk packed full of camping gear and a passenger).

I was impressed with how good the mileage was with the 328i. I have been averaging 19mpg for my around town driving with my short (10 mile) commute to work. I average 14.5mpg in my E28 with the same driving so it is only a little better (considering the engine is more efficient, smaller, the car is lighter and the aerodynamics are better). I was glad to see ~29mpg on the highway even when I was driving pretty fast at 85mph+ for extended periods of time.
I threw a little marvels mystery oil in the gas tank and in the engine (8oz each) to clean out some crud the bottom end had in it. I think it really helped the mileage, as I did the same drive on tuesday (to get to sac) and only got 26.3mpg with the same average speed and just 1 stop for gas...

The farthest I've ever driven was from Jackson Hole, WY to Portland, OR. Stopped a couple of times for gas and a Blizzard. Nineteen hours and about 1100 miles.

Congrats on the milage & safe drive. TJ sorry about your Grandmother I had no clue that was why you were going to CT. 2275 is my longest trip. Los Angeles to Ixtapa. First time in a fully loaded Tundra pulling a fully loaded 12 foot trailer.

Subsequently done it 2x once in the cabrio once in my 4runner.

a few months ago did chicago to boston and back in 3 days - two getting to boston (2-leg trip) and one straight through back home.

16hrs each way, 1000 mi each way... damn

did it in a rented car though, 2006 toyota avalon. big, comfy, and radar-guided cruse control :D

Dont really remember how far it was but i made it from Hevenly Tahoo to my door in riverside in 6 hours and 26 minutes, with 2 gas stops. That was a long drive.

So we're doing a longest drive thread now?
Just drove from jersey to philly and back to get some sport seats, not too far. Only about 240 round trip.

Couple years ago, a friend and I drove from Seattle to Buffalo NY. Did it slow though, in 3-4 days. Fun stuff.

Me and 3 friends drove from Chattanooga, TN to Escalante, UT (1,821 miles each way) and back last summer in a '04 Subie 2.5RS. We drove out there w/o spending the night anywhere and took us ~30 hours. We stopped in Denver on the way back to party a little. Total trip was almost 4,000 miles. My friend had to do an oil change immediately before and after the trip.

Hey Ryan. I just got your message today (been away from my phone). To bad I missed you. I have been swamped with school lately. Maybe we can get together over Christmas break (if you are comming back home).

                            Talk to you later.

Yea, I am comming up over x-mas, but I will only be there for 4 days with my parents up in Nevada City, then I am driving back to SB on x-mas day so I can be back at work monday morning... Its going to be an even shorter trip than this last one, so I doubt I will be able to get together with you guys. Maybe I will be up there again after that, I want to take my M3 on a trip up there to see everyone once I paint it, so maybe jan-feb I will do that.

Alright, my ultimate road trip was in 5th grade. My mom and dad took my sister and I out of school for 9 weeks. We drove all the way up to vancouver, then east through canada, back into the states to drive through north/south dakota, through chicago, pittsburg, DC, all the way to Atlanta. Then back up through charleston SC, and many other cities, back to chicago where we put our conversion van on a truck and took amtrak all the way back from Chicago to Colfax, CA. 46 hours on the train to get back. We did 9k miles in the van over 9 weeks with many stops all over the country. It was awesome to see so much in such a short time. I am glad my parents did that for my sister and I to see what else is out there, and when I got back to Cali, I was glad this is where I lived and not some of the other places we went to. Makes you apprechate what you have in life.
