    porsche 911 or e30?

I have had the itch for several years for a 911. I finally have a nice e30 vert that would bring some pretty decent cash and a really nice e24 manual.
I am playing with the idea of unloading them and picking up a late 70's or so 911. I have found a few in my area that would fall into the cash range I would have after the sale of my two.
Picking up another e30 is fairly easy and I have been wanting to do autox setup for a while. So the question is, what are your thoughts? Would you trade your e30 for a decent 911? Remember, we are talking about a $7-8k 911, not a $20k 911.
And if not a 911, what car have you always wanted in that price range that would make you consider unloading your e30?

I have been contemplating the same thing for a while. This guy lives a few houses down from me, and I have been drooling over this car in his driveway every time I drove past for the last year.

I've already poured so much into my E30 though..to dump it and start all over on a 911..Eek the wife would kill me.

They're kinda a pain. You have to be able to take the pain. We've got a few customers with 911scs and they are pretty well off. Not DDing the cars, but not garage queen status. We've got one we're making into a shop sponsored race car too.

They're cool, but I'd never own one. Always wanted one until I worked at a shop that serviced them.

You could not have made a more true statement. I can spend a little as I go along without the wife John Wayne Bobbiting me for dropping 20k at once. She has a big car payment, well I do for her car, but not me. That's how I get away with throwing a little cash here and there at my projects.

First off, a 1977 911 is one of my dream cars and I hope to own one someday.

If you had the money to buy one, even a cheaper one, I would say hell yeah go for it. However, I feel like I would deeply regret losing my E30 for one, and especially losing an E30 and E24...

But since the E30 is a vert, I think it would be a totally respectable decision. But, a clean E24 manual, really? I'd have a tough time selling that for any reason.

For your final question, I would unload an E30 vert for a real E30, 2002, 240Z, 70's Celica, 510, or E21. Probably others, but none are coming to mind.
                  Different strokes for different folks.

I've had - and loved - a 911, though not as a DD. I do know a guy who has a spectacular 930 DD (Yes!) with over 200k. But he spends an incredible amount of time keeping it nice - no, make that really nice. Of course in addition to Time it also takes $$. If you're gonna do this you'll have to have a very comfortable cushion of cash after a VERY thorough inspection of the car.

I would if I had extra cash, but I wouldn't drop the E24. 1984 -911 is one of my favs.

                      Others:

                      240zx/fairlady Z
                      AE86
                      R32
                      Euro E28
                      Euro E30T
                      Euro E24

Etc. if you really want a 911 go for it. But you might miss the E30.

That car is stunning and the price seems to be well worth it. I would not mind putting the cash up for an example like that. I even think my wife would be cool with it!
