The only cars that I would consider getting rid of my e30 and e24 for would be a porsche 911 or a late c4 corvette. Don't hate on the corvette, they are amazing cars for the coin.

I would trade yes, but theyre on a different tier of running cost than non M e30. I imagine you will track it, youre in danville after all..
If you can put that into your budget i would say yes.

I'd trade mine for a comparable 911 but it would have to be a cabriolet. Only solid top Porsche I would have is the 928GT or S4. Although the more I drive a Porsche, the more meh they seem. Although the new Panamera is a great driving car.

What kind of engine swaps can be done on those ol' 911's? 8)

This is true, especially the newer Vettes!! I've seen many Z06's whoop 911 GT3's up at VIR. Watching them come down the front stretch and pass a GT3 pretty handily says something.

I bought my 318i in '99 and kept it through a string of very nice cars including this '04 911 (996). The car was amazing to drive, required nothing but an oil change every 15k, $100/mo in tires (rears were good for 8-10k and costs $660\pr at the time), made me claustrophobic & had me wondering why people were staring at me..until I realized it was the car, not me

The 911 is gone but I still have the 318i....and 3 other e30's.

A cheap 911 is the same as saying...

cheap E28 M5, cheap E30 M3 and cheap E34 M5.... they all will cost you about 15 to 20k to get a proper one running and driving like it should.

Oh, and experience with pulling motors for maintenance would be a plus too.

I would rather offload both and buy a really nice clean E30 M3. The 911 is great and all but it is just a sports car. The M3 has more room and SO much better looking IMO.

Ive had a 1969 911 targa... Cars are nice but too expensive for parts, etc.

DITTO ^^^^^^^^^^^.All so a 911 is expensive to maintain. I would sell the vert and buy a coupe and build that. Also 911's are notorious for understeer/oversteer when pushed in racing conditions.;) E30's are not.

Every 911 owner knows this and you learn to drive it accordingly and how to deal with the car when it over steers.

Stay away from late 70's 911's unless they are swapped with with a later motronic 3.2 engine. The late 70's cars have "thermal-reactors" which are emissions garbage preheaters for the heads. They use exhaust heat to warm them up and leak and can cause overheating issues in hotter climates. Look for an early 80's 911sc, you will be much happier.
