The last time I did the calculation I drove about 50/50 (highway/city) and I got close to 30mpg on a S50 ZF 2.93.

I filled up, drove about 130 miles on the freeway, then romped it hard around town for another 100 miles. (My gas gauge doesn't always work so I always make sure she's filled up) so I thought "Eh, 230 miles, I'll fill up just in case"....I filled up 8 gallons on the dot.

            230/8= 28.75mpg

I see your S52 is in the 21 mpg range. If this is a mixture of highway and city driving then you arent doing too bad. If that is purely highway, I would suggest you have it looked at.
Same here, I use a gps logger to calculate distance traveled as I change wheels enough with different rollouts. Mixed city/highway, mostly city, but it's a relaxed city at that. Nothing like driving in LA. You get somewhere in 15 minutes ;-)

This has always bugged me, I'm getting, at best, about 18-19 hwy according to the OBC in my 89 'vert auto. Recently had an inspection II done, some vac. leaks dealt with, and admittedly, I drive with the top and foot down quite a bit, but still, seems like I should be doing a little better.

Hmm, 200 miles yesterday, most of 25 gallons... so, 8?

The obc is doing some long range calculaation. So for the glamour shot I took off the battery plug so its only the trip its keeping track of. If you can't get to 25 even on a long trip there is something wrong. I feel like something that bad is a very rich mixture so I d want to see the plugs to tell if its all cylinders or just one.

I bet mine is getting 20. mpg right now and I know its not something minor like a vacuuum leak its that whole intake manifold leaks and there's not enough air.
That's 5 mpg right there from the air filter to the manifold. Other than leaky injectores nothing else is that majjor.

                          M42 318is 200k miles

34mpg highway with a lower ratio 4.27 M42 vert diff and one step down sidewall size on the tires... the car is quite a bit lighter than stock, and I feel like even though the ratio is lower on the diff is better matches the power of the motor and there is no struggle whatsoever cruising. The car is actually nice and peppy. I think being very low and light probably has helped out with the mileage. I rated the car when it was all stock and it was doing about 2mpg's less on the highway before. I've also done alot of things to clean the outside of the engine which may have helped.

Typically do about 26 with mixed light foot driving. Car currently has the stock m20b27 with 260k miles, crapped out 02 sensor and a 2.93. It'll drop to 18 if I'm hooning though. Kinda curious to see how bad I'd do with a 3.73(for poops and giggles)

ok so i know this sounds crazy but a buddy and i were driving his s52 swapped e30 to atlanta and i was driving my mark d chip 325es, we filled up before we left, i always pump to the first click, we stopped 145 miles in so we would have enough gas to not have to stop in atlanta and he was a little under half tank, yet i pumped to fill up and only took 3.7 gallons to fill. which would equal about 39mpg...which seems a bit much. even tho my computer only said i was getting 27mpg. but sure enough it was full afterwards. i drove about 80-85 at around 4k RPM's in 5th gear...even pushed it into the hundreds a few times...did i do something wrong with my math or should i just be grateful for a chipped ETA with 195 65 r14 tires properly inflated and not much junk in the trunk?

note that it was all highway miles.
