As most anyone who's been around message boards for any significant length of time will tell you, the typed word is quite different from the spoken one so it's all in how you read it. Some people tend to read things with a bit of pre-disposed cynicism (e.g those who grew up communicating in the spoken word and could get a read on the tone of a discussion through voice inflection), whereas others - predominantly the younger generation who have been communicating this way most of their lives - tend to get offended a little less easily by what's in black and white.
What is an E30 worth parted out?

I'm of the middle generation (late Gen X) and have been communicating via message forums, and BBS (not the wheels) long before that, since I was in middle school. The difference with what I see today on forums is generally less ability to actually communicate (wether it be spelling, grammar, complete sentences, or coherency of thought) and less general respect for other people. As most anyone who's been around message boards for any significant length of time will tell you, the typed word is quite different from the spoken one so it's all in how you read it. Not where I go, if we were in the PNW car meets you might get beat. At least everyone would ask why then leave you to commit your crime lol.I'm not surprised that people have an opinion, just amazed at people's need to comment (off topic) on other people's posts. I guess I'm on a kick right now about how rude people are on the internet. If we were all standing around enjoying a beer at a car meet and I asked the same question, the responses would be very different. People's opinions would be the same, but without the macho sauce that is anonymity, but they would express them quite differently.
Anyway, I was just looking for information so that I could make an informed decision. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I try not to crap on people's threads...

Wasn't suggesting you were crapping, just some previous posters. Anyway, actively trying to sell first. The Definitive 1991 M-Technic Thread - a work in progressComment

This was a silly thread to even start. Certainly you knew that when we saw the car in question no one would tell you to part it. If you didn't your a fool. Guys on here love to death e30's that are in 1/2 the condition of yours.I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

Yeah, it was totally silly. I didn't ask if I should, I just wanted to know what it would be worth in parts...

At the risk of belaboring the point, I am in complete agreement with you here.
Back on topic, I am surprised you're having trouble sourcing the parts you want in NorCal. I do have a couple of connections out there, so feel free to PM me and discuss further if you like.Comment

I sourced a transmission, driveshaft, pedal box, flywheel and master/slave cylindars in Norcal for $300. The transmission has +200k miles (now) & runs just fine. I then spent another $170 on new clutch, pp, bearings and then another $150 on misc. new stuff.
Total: $620
Then I swapped it myself in my backyard. Btw I was 17 at the time.
The cost of parts is cheaper than what that vert is worth in parts and especially as a whole.
The whole process of selling the car & finding the parts is not hard. It's significantly easier than parting it.
Oh & btw you dont need an airbag pedal box. You can just swap the pedals.
Lastly, If you want that car to sell quick, drop the price by a grand or two and it'll be gone by tomorrow.

Prices appears to have gone up since then. I'm assuming you aren't 17 anymore?I sourced a transmission, driveshaft, pedal box, flywheel and master/slave cylindars in Norcal for $300. I've seen that, but it appears that you miss out on a return spring mounting point then?
To go back to my original intent, if I dropped the price by 2K, then it would be worth parting it out (strictly financially speaking)... Thus, why I asked the question in the first place. The Definitive 1991 M-Technic Thread - a work in progressComment
