    Smuggle E30 touring in US

Ok, the lowdown is my dad has been Bmw mechnic for 14 years and has owned and restored easly 25 e30s rangeing form m3s to 325e's. Ok Both my dad and I have a e30 wagon fetish but he wants a project car. So I was wondering if any one has a touring basicly a shell and interor. Preferbly both in better condition. Engine=none, he wants a s50... Were trying to avoid paying big bucks for shipping. If anyone could help or give me any advice please email me at cannondale900sl@netscape.net or pm me. If anyone lives in the atlanta area he works a auto europe on chesirbride.

    Peace,
    Dave Campbell

Might as well put some high quality columbian cocaine in the back.

I'm sure if you contact someone with your state customs they would help you out if it's only a body of a car.

if any e30 nut had just the shell of a wagon in the states, it wouldnt be just a shell for very long. u mite as well import one as an off road vehicle(off road as in not driven on the streets, not WRC).

it would be very easy to get into the US, driving across the border. registering it on the other hand...

Just slap on a different dash with a VIN # and a set of plates from one of your e30 parts cars... nobody would notice. haha

except the vin # is stamped all over the place (the cowel, fenders, hood, trunk)

of course, it's not like they inspect your car around here when you get it registered. hell, they don't even look at it. but if you get into an accident..

I cross the Mexico/U.S. border almost monthly they pay no attention to the car they ask 1/2 the time if it's mine but even the time I drove the Mexican registered Suburban across they did not check documentation.

As Nando said regestering it is altogether another matter.

is it illegal to own a touring in the U.S. or something?

no, but they technically have to be federalized (emissions, safety, etc), which is very expensive.

there's a 100% functional wagon in Los Angeles area, asking price 8 G's.
                          not registered nor federalized yet.

I could have sworn it was "wrong" not "round". Call me crazy...

idk man i LOVE the wagons also. i was trying to find one but like everyone else said, to get them registered and all that is very hard. my dad actualy worked on oldschool beemers for like 20 years. all like e30s n e34 n e21s n all that. he did say he worked on one touring. the car was not wat u call "legal" tho. wat he did was swapped the vin and plates off another e30 he had. however my dad thought he was in an accident but my dad dont remember what all happend to him. i know this didnt help but there is my 2 cents lol
