I don't know about most of you, but I have been disappointed with BMW since the E39 and E46 were replaced.

I dunno, but I feel like the BMW nameplate status thing isn't really new. Wasn't the main image of the E30 when it was new that it was just a plaything for yuppies? BMW itself realized the early 318's and etas were too soft, which is why they widened the range to include the i and iX. At least that's how I see it.

People complaining about a car they will never own or never afford ITT.

econobox FWD 1 series with an automatic trans?

I could afford it, but I'd rather shoot myself in the face.

Yeah, he's right. A friend of mine does BMW training on a regular basis and they discuss technology and cars that are forecasted out as far as 2020 (for now). FWD gives an opportunity for BMW to invade the fleet market. As mentioned 4 out of 5 1-series owners didn't know or care that their cars were rear-wheel drive, so obviously the market is ready to accept FWD.

They said the same thing about normally aspirated engines years ago, and now BMW is a virtually a 100% turbocharged company...

+1 here. I can't hate on BMW for expanding their customer base, but it's nothing I would personally consider. BMW will always make rwd cars, and I will drive those cars.

there are plenty of excellent late model BMWs to entertain me til the end of time.

about the last BMW i'd like to own would be a 135i or e90 M3.

As for BMW rear-wheel-drive purists, BMW says there may not be so many after all, at least among its small-car enthusiasts. Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer said a survey of BMW 1 Series drivers two years ago showed four out of five already thought their car was front-wheel-drive.
                          I lol'd ... I lol'd long and hard...

                          I hope the next M3 is a FWD, 4-door only, twin turbo'd v6... and it can't weigh less than 1700 kg's.

Then I would finally have a legit reason to kill myself.
