    hand protection

So in the past week, I have bought an engine, and changed the head bolts in the engine already in my car. On both occasions, my wrench has slipped off a stubborn bolt and my hand got jammed into some other piece of metal, causing some cuts and stuff. I'm kinda tired of the cuts from surrounding metal, so what do you guys use for hand protection when working on your car? Would the Mechanix gloves they sell at Wal-Mart be fine?

I have been forcing my self to use mech gloves and am actually used to them now and wear them all the time, unless I need to stick my finger in something tight, that may require lubrication.

i cannot work properly with any type of glove on automotivelly. just feels wrong

but the gloves you want are fine. dont pay up the butt because they will get oil soaked and ruined fast. Spending a pretty penny is not ideal with work gloves that may come in contact with oils/ grease.

Diamond Grip gloves. Strong enough for everything but not as thick as Mechanix gloves. I use them religiously. Plus any self respecting women won't let you touch them with grubby hands.

I picked up a cheap pair of mechanic gloves from harbor freight and I like them a lot! But I agree that theres some things you can't wear gloves for.

Benefits of working at a vet clinic free latex surgery cloves. The glove will rip before you do. 100 pairs a box.

Mechanic gloves with latex under, why.....Because you take off your mechanic gloves to do little things, fingers still cover with latex. I'm not against having dirty hands I just hate spending all day washing them. Latex gloves are pretty cheap and get cheap mechanic gloves.

Depends on the job. I have a pair of the mechanix impact series ($40) and they're awesome. Long lasting too. I tend to get them as tight as possible so I go through the normal ones.

                  Edit: nitrile works well also

Own several pairs of mechanix gloves in regular and impact series. I try to wear them when doing anything suspension/brake related or when using a tool on a bolt larger than 13mm. Was given that advice by a pro and it seems to work well on a prevention basis in case something slips or breaks my hands have been covered.

Use the black nitrile from HF for doing oil changes and other fluid swaps. Those box of hundreds are so cheap and really saves the hands IMO.

I wear mechanics gloves for things that don't need much tactile feeling, like changing tires or whatever, but hate wearing latex gloves. My hands sweat like no other. The only time i use them is if I'm painting or using harsh chemicals like paint stripper.

I prefer a pair of pink dishwashing gloves. Work great when doing oil changes

Bags of these. If it's too hot to touch, rubber melts and won't let you hold it.
If it isn't, you have superb grip, excellent tactile feedback, cheap and you really don't care if they get fucked up, because there's almost always another pair in the bag.

Mechanix gloves are fucking overpriced worthless things. Get gear oil on them, kiss them goodbye.
