What RPMs do you shift at?

    before It warms up I'll drive around 3k, after that I shift at 5.5-redline. M42 gets surprisingly good mileage with that.

        I average just about 24 combined. I can't say its very good for a 1.8, but I suppose it's not terrible.

                No. Doing lots of investigating on a very high rpm n/a engine build. The M50 I have will probably go into my newly acuired E36 318i daily.

                  under 3k till warm, then between 3-4k when cruising around typically.

                    about 2800-2900. unless I'm purposely trying to go fast...then depends,maybe 6500? Its been above 7000 a bit in auto X just fine, I'm just hearing it bounce off the limiter at 7200.

                    My commute to work, all of 6 miles but through traffic up the ass everywhere taking the cuts around, i still manage about 20mpg. on long trips ive gotten high as 26.7 mpg according to OBC

                      On a typical drive into town to get to college or to run simple errands I shift around 2000-2200 rpms. The low end power of an S52 + 2.93 LSD + my relaxed driving style leads to very low rpms for daily driving.

                      When I am feeling frisky I will have drives in which the S52 rarely dips below 4k. This isnt too often though as I am a poor college student who hates buying gas every week.

                        Meh, relaxed probably 3k, but I was running her out till ~5600 most of the time, scared to go past that. 12mpg ftmfw.

                          Usually around 3-4k.

                          I've never gone passed 6k.. :l

                          After I swap out my 4.10 open for a 3.73 lsd I'll rip things up a bit more.

                            On the m20b25 it is 3.5k until warmed up then it is whatever the situation is, never really going past 6k though cuz there is no point.

                            On the s14 it is 3.5k until warmed up then generally around 4.5k, but it is hard not to want to drive that engine in the upper band...

                                Actually I've learned to shift (up AND down) without the clutch at all. Took a helluva time, but its smooooth now. Clutches are for those without timing and rhythm comparatively. ;-)
