Doesnt that mean your tranny is smoked. My first car(sunfire) the clutch hydraulics pretty much gave out and I still drove it for a year. Only thing that made shifting easier was alot of grinding gears down. I assumed I ground it down enough that shifting was smooth. Unless I actually did get timing down. Although my buddy drove it once and said "oh crap I forgot to clutch and it didt grind." it was his first time in a standard.

^^No, doesn't mean you have killed/hurt the synchros. If your grinding, you ARE hurting the synchros.... Clutchless shifting works because YOU ARE ALWAYS revmatching, and pulling out of gear with no load on the trans, hence why the synchros slide right in/out with no grinding. I guess the only reason i shift under 3k is cause thats usually where my car sounds like it "opens up" or hits its power band (m20). Ill usually hit 4.5k if im feeling like a douche bag driving, but im a pretty chill driver.I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

You shift before the power band to get the least power from your engine, so you don't feel like a douche? I just remembered that the only thing my examiner had to say after my license test was that he felt that I didn't shift early enough.The first car I ever rode in was an e30

I shift around 2.5-3k in my e30, and I try not to go above 3k unless duty calls for it. My heavy ass e46 on the other hand, I shift at least around 3k since it feels like a pig compared to my slender e30! haha
I don't know but when I was doing this, although it was smooth when performed correctly, I didn't see the point in doing so nor how it could be any good for our cars. It is in fact slower than shifting with a clutch and the slightest slip up on timing and bam! You grind. Ive seen you above 5k down Laurelwood, or something like that..about 2800-2900. unless I'm purposely trying to go fast...then depends,maybe 6500? Its been above 7000 a bit in auto X just fine, I'm just hearing it bounce off the limiter at 7200.
My commute to work, all of 6 miles but through traffic up the ass everywhere taking the cuts around, i still manage about 20mpg. on long trips ive gotten high as 26.7 mpg according to OBC

Partly I brought it up in jest, but this is also the beauty of owning a manual. So many ways to have fun! I heal-toe around town now, other times rarely using the brake to stop (annoys others that are tailgating), or drive as I stated earlier. Yes, driving a manual makes driving as a whole a much better experience. You pretty much have complete control over what the car is doing, and a nice heel-toe downshift always impresses the passengers during spirited drives! I love that I can just sit in 1st gear foot off the throttle and just creep in traffic without even touching the clutch unless I need to stop.Partly I brought it up in jest, but this is also the beauty of owning a manual.
